2025 MotoGP: Ducati dominates Sepang Winter Test

Posted in Bikes, Local Bike News, MotoGP / By Mohan K Ramanujam / February 10 2025 12:13 pm.
As expected, Ducati dominated the 2025 MotoGP Winter Test at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) over the previous week. With Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing firing out a lap time. He was followed by Ducati Lenovo Team’s Francesco Bagnaia just of a second behind.
Notable is the fact Marquez was riding the Desmosedici GP24 while Bagnaia mounted the Desmosedici GP25. While Winter Test is not necessarily a true indication of a MotoGP rider’s or bike’s true performance, it can be expected the 2024 Ducati will perhaps dominate the first quarter of this year’s racing as Ducati gathers data for the 2025 MotoGP machine.
However, biggest surprise of the three days of Winter Test was Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP. Rider Fabio Quartararo clocking a , with the YZR-M1 showing a very decent turn of speed. Quartararo was consistent on his lap times on day three of testing, with the Frenchman showing his pleasure in the media debrief.
The Yamaha’s performance even impressed Davide Tardozzi, Ducati Lenovo’s team manager. Who implied the Italian team could face a credible challenge from the Iwata team this year. For comparison, Quartararo’s team mate, Alex Rins, came in tenth while the new Yamaha satellite team riders, Prima Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, were twelfth and seventeenth, respectively.
The other Japanese team, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC). Saw riders Johann Zarco and Joan Mir pushing the RC123V faster than ever before at Sepang, coming in seventh and eighth, respectively. New HRC technical chief Romano Albesiano noted the team will be returning to Sepang instead of a planned test in Portugal.
Meanwhile, KTM, despite the financial troubles faced by its parent enterprise. Saw Pedro Acosta put his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine in sixth place, a best ever lap time at SIC for the Austrian team. Team mate Brad Binder was not as lucky with a technical issue halting play during the Sprint simulation. Forcing the South African into thirteenth position.

Proton hands over S70 patrol car to Muallim police

Proton has handed over a S70 to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for use by the Muallim district police as a patrol car. The handover ceremony took place following the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the carmaker’s first electric vehicle (EV) factory in Tanjong Malim.
The S70 was presented by Proton board member Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, with Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Proton CEO Li Chunrong and. Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah in attendance.
We understand that only one unit of the S70, which is a Flagship variant, was handed over to the Muallim district police. As a PDRM vehicle, the car is decked out in official livery and gets a light bar and siren installed on its roof.
The Flagship is the second-highest variant in the S70 range and. Retails for RM89,800. All S70s are powered by a litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine making 150 PS (148 hp or 110 kW) and 226 Nm of torque. With drive going to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The next step up is the Flagship X at RM94,800 that adds on a sunroof and digital video recorder.

2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country EV straps on snow boots

The Volvo EX30 electric vehicle began arriving at dealerships last month, but only in top Twin Motor Performance guise. Other versions are on the way, though, including the more rugged EX30 Cross Country, which was unveiled in Sweden Monday.
Volvo previewed the Cross Country with a concept vehicle that was unveiled alongside the production version of the standard EX30 in 2023, and. The design hasn't changed much from concept form. The Cross Country elements increased ground clearance, skid plates, and 18-inch wheels that can be fitted with all-terrain tires. A load carrier, roof basket, and mud flaps are among the optional accessories offered within Cross Country Experience packages.
Blacked-out panels and the front and. Rear also carry over from the concept, along with wheel-arch extensions. The front fascia includes a topographical representation of the Kebnekaise mountain range in northern Sweden, which Volvo says serves as an inspiration for its designers.
The EX30 Cross Country will come standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive, but Volvo hasn't confirmed whether it will be tuned for the same 422 hp and. 400 lb-ft of torque as current Twin Motor Performance models.
The Cross Country is also likely to use the same 69-kwh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack as other EX30 models, with EPA range to be disclosed at a later date. Other dual-motor versions of the EX30 are currently EPA-rated at 253 miles, and. Volvo projects that they can DC fast charge from 10%-80% in less than 30 minutes. That charge time is expected to apply to the Cross Country as well.
Volvo initially planned to bring the EX30 to the last summer, but. The launch was delayed after new tariffs were imposed for EVs made in China, complicating the automaker's plans to source the first vehicles from that country before shifting production to Belgium. The China-made EX30 then reached dealerships in January only in its top dual-motor form, with a starting price of $46,195.
Volvo has promised that a single-motor version of the EX30 is still on the way. With a base price of $36,245. The single-motor EX30 and Cross Country are both expected to appear before the end of the 2025 calendar year. Meaning they'll likely be considered 2026 models.
