Clyde Hydrogen partners with PlusZero to pilot green hydrogen electrolyser

Glasgow University spinout Clyde Hydrogen has partnered with Hebrides-based green hydrogen producer and distributor, PlusZero, to demonstrate its decoupled electrolyser technology for the first time outside of the laboratory.

PlusZero will deploy one of Clyde Hydrogen’s commercial demonstrator electrolysers and will support the operation and testing of the demonstrator for a period of at least 6 months.

Clyde Hydrogen contends with one of high pressure green hydrogen production's biggest challenges to date by aiming to deliver it safely at scale and at low cost. This has the potential to match renewable energy with hydrogen production more than is currently possible.

PlusZero has secured funding support from the Scottish Government’s Emerging Energies Technology Fund (EETF) to develop its first green hydrogen production facility at the Creed Hydrogen Skills and Innovation Centre in Stornoway.

Launching in October 2025, the collaborative project with the Western Isles Council and the University of the Highlands and Islands, North, West & Hebrides integrates commercial production of green hydrogen and oxygen, hydrogen technology training, and cutting-edge research and field testing of next-generation electrolyser technology.

The MoU also gives PlusZero an option to purchase an initial order of 10 MW electrolyser capacity from Clyde Hydrogen.

James Peck, Clyde Hydrogen’s CEO, commented: “I’m delighted to sign this agreement with PlusZero who we believe are an ideal partner to deliver our commercial demo. Last month, we achieved a milestone technical breakthrough in our technology and to already sign our first commercial agreement is testament to the game-changing potential of our pioneering technology and commercial traction we are already receiving.”.

David Amos, PlusZero Founder and Managing Director added: “At PlusZero, our mission is to accelerate the availability of affordable green hydrogen, empowering our end-individuals to achieve their decarbonization goals. Clyde Hydrogen's ground-breaking electrolyser technology offers a transformative leap in cost efficiency and production flexibility. We are thrilled to support their efforts in bringing this cutting-edge Scottish produced solution to market."

Linux Foundation Europe and OpenSSF launch initiative for EU Cyber Resilience Act compliance

The EU Cyber Resilience Act sets new regulatory requirements for software security, placing a significant emphasis on the safety and security of digital products sold within the European market.

The joint initiative helps develop and formalise much-needed cybersecurity standards and compliance frameworks to help 100+ million open source communities understand and meet the regulatory requirements outlined in the CRA, to expand efforts to address legislation around the world.

The initiative will focus on several core deliverables over the coming months to help EU policy makers, including:

Discussing and formalising cybersecurity specifications.

Implementing compliance processes and tooling.

“As the steward for some of the most critical open source projects in the world, we feel the responsibility to reduce friction for our maintainers and software manufacturers leveraging upstream open source to comply with these regulations," stated Mirko Boehm, Senior Director for Community Development at Linux Foundation Europe.

"While the CRA represents the most immediate priority, our global nature means we can support projects across jurisdictions and prevent the burden of a fragmented regulatory landscape through established community-driven standards and tools like those in OpenSSF. ”.

“CRob” Robinson, Chief Security Architect of the OpenSSF, the responsibility for these practices rightly falls upon commercial entities to perform and provide, not the upstream open source maintainers.

“Mature manufacturers should already be doing the majority of the legislated requirements, while those that are not doing them will still have a short runway until the CRA finally goes into effect in 2027.”.
