Your journey as Henry of Skalitz in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is fraught with danger. Naturally, you need to arm yourself to be ready for potential threats. That’s easier introduced than done as you’re strapped for cash at the start of the campaign, your reputation is down in the dumps, and most merchants don’t want anything to do with you. Thankfully, we’ve got a few tips to help you make more money early in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Troskowitz: The first town where you can make some money.

Troskowitz is the first village that you can explore once you start the campaign proper. While it only has a few establishment, it will nonetheless become your main hub for most of the game’s first half. Now, if you do want to make money in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you need to head to the carpenter’s house, which is directly across the street from the tavern. The reasons for this are because (a) the main door is sometimes left open, and (b) you could still clamber up the log piles to enter the second-floor bedroom window.

While standing at the main street, use the “Wait” action and fast-forward the in-game time until it’s around 10:00 [website] This is when most villagers are asleep.

Make sure you equip your torch so guards don’t accost you for sneaking around while it’s dark.

At the same time, you need to head to the carpenter’s yard without getting spotted by guards. Otherwise, they’d find your behavior suspicious.

Crouch to enter stealth mode and enter the main door if it’s been left open. Alternatively, climb atop the log piles and enter the second-floor bedroom window.

How to steal from the carpenter and his father.

Once inside the carpenter’s home, stay crouched and approach the carpenter’s father, who should be asleep. Now, you should be able to steal from the NPCs in this building:

Press and hold the “Rob” button. The number here determines how many seconds you’ll have for the pickpocketing minigame.

Watch out if the interface turns red, since this means you might get detected. Let go of the “Rob” button when this happens to begin the pickpocketing minigame.

The wheel interface for the minigame displays blocked-off circles, which represent items that you can loot. There’s also a gauge or timer that slowly winds down.

You can keep trying several times until you obtain all items–the most significant ones are the keys–just be sure you’re able to “escape” via the door icon. Failure to do so will cause the victim to wake up and shout for the guards.

Once you have the keys, use them to unlock the chest that’s next to the carpenter’s father and steal all the items. Next, head downstairs and do the same for the carpenter; he should also be asleep and he has another chest that’s right next to his bed.

Before you leave, you can rummage through the containers and baskets to grab some food as well. Last but not least, you should not be seen by guards as you exit the yard. If they spot you, you will likely get accused of theft come morning.

Your tactical thievery should net you several items, including weapons like the Hunting Sword, Billhook, Glaive, and Dogwood Village Bow, as well as various tunics, sketches, materials, and even unique dice for the Farkle minigame. You can sell all of these at the Troskowitz trader to make money in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. However, be reminded that the trader will lower his prices because these goods are stolen.

If you want to have more cash, you could either travel north to Tachov or west to Zhelejov to sell your wares. The “stolen” tag shouldn’t apply in these areas since the merchants won’t know where you got your items. The only downside is that these locations are quite far and you could get waylaid by bandits whenever you fast travel.

You’ll probably need food and lodgings while you’re at it.

At best, you could just redo the process of stealing from the carpenter’s home and selling at the trader, even with the reduced prices. It takes a few in-game days for the chests in the carpenter NPCs’ home to get restocked, as well as for the trader’s Groschen ([website] gold) to return to its default value. If you prefer this method, you could opt to do the following:

The food that you’ve stolen from the barrels and crates should be more than enough to keep Henry feel nourished whenever he’s hungry.

The tavern lady won’t let you stay at her establishment as she’s still angry. However, you can sleep Roman’s house, which is right next to the tailor’s shop. You can climb up the ladder to the opening on the second floor. The bed here allows you to rest and recuperate, though you won’t be able to save your game. You Asked: Antenna signal fix, best anime TV, and mirror magic

On today’s episode of You Asked: Why don’t wireless OTA antenna kits exist, and is it even possible to get your antenna signal transmitted wirelessly? Can a mirror magically make your TV look several times improved? What’s the best TV for anime? And can an in-ceiling speaker surround system be really impressive?

Martyn from “across the pond” writes that after wall-mounting their LG G-Series OLED, there was some kind of signal interruption between their antenna (or aerial) and their TV. After hooking up their TV to the coaxial cable connection for the antenna, nothing happened. There’s probably a fault in the cable, however it’s routed through the walls in a Victorian home, so digging it out and replacing it isn’t an option. They looked into getting a wireless transceiver kit and were disappointed to find out that, apparently, no such product exists. So, the question is: What’s the solution?

I’ll spell out that solution shortly. First, why in this day and age of wireless-everything boxes is there not a box that just takes a TV antenna signal and wirelessly beams it to a receiver connected to your TV? Often, the location of the TV is not the best place for an antenna. There’s clearly a need to be able to put the antenna where it should go, put the TV where it needs to be, and then wirelessly beam a signal from one to the other to avoid the hassle of running a cable through the house or, in this case, replacing an existing faulty coaxial cable.

The reason that no wireless transmitter and receiver can just take a raw TV antenna signal and send it over the air wirelessly? The signal itself spans a broad range of the wireless spectrum and is heavily modulated. The equipment needed to wirelessly retransmit a signal like that is restricted to professional video folks. Not only is the signal too complicated to re-broadcast – and actually illegal to do so without a broadcasting license – it would be extremely susceptible to interference, likely with other wireless devices in a home.

In the US, this is heavily regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). That’s why you won’t find a TV antenna that doesn’t have a coaxial cable attached to it.

What can you do? The key is to connect a tuner to the antenna itself at the antenna’s location. The tuner demodulates the signal and turns it into a video signal, and that demodulated, display-ready video signal can then be wirelessly transmitted throughout the home over Wi-Fi.

That’s what OTA tuners and DVRs – like Tablo and SiliconDust – do. They take the signal from an antenna, process it, and then make it available to watch via a Wi-Fi network. The SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex Duo 2 is a box that will allow you to watch up to two different channels at the same time from anywhere you have internet. You can watch broadcast TV through their app, which is available on iPhone, Android, Xbox, Apple TV, Roku, and LG (I’m not sure about Samsung Tizen – you’d want to double check).

This device isn’t a DVR, but it can become one if you add an external hard drive, which allows you to not only watch live TV, but also to record up to two channels at a time, whenever you want, wherever you want.

The Tablo devices are similar, but most of those are DVRs – so you’re buying a DVR on top of the wireless TV solution. However, the pricing is very competitive. I don’t think the Tablo brand is available in the UK or Europe – I’m guessing that’s where you are since you noted “across the pond” – but there are likely other brands available. Just look for an OTA DVR or a device similar to the HDHomeRun.

Why does my TV look enhanced in the mirror?

This next question is wacky and kind of a mystery.

Oliver writes that they have a Sony TV near the entrance of the house, and opposite to the TV is a mirror. They swear that the mirror makes the TV’s picture quality significantly improved – jaw-dropping, in fact. What’s going on here? Is this mirror magic? How can a mirrored image look improved than the image source?

There are several potential factors at play, and it’s likely a combination of them that makes the TV look more effective in the mirror than viewing the TV directly.

Mirrors don’t actually reflect 100 percent of light – they absorb some of it. Most mirrors have a black backing – without it you could see through them, like a two-way mirror – that absorbs some of the light shining on them. This means some of the brightness of your TV will be knocked down, but it may also cause the TV to appear to have enhanced black levels than it actually does because any blooming is erased. The contrast of the TV may appear to be superior in the mirror, even though the total brightness has been knocked down.

In fact, the reflected mirror image might make an LCD TV look like an OLED TV (with perfect black levels that are jaw-dropping to see). Also, the mirror will help counteract some of the TV’s own anti-glare measures. When the TV is viewed directly, some low-level light smearing and rainbow effects from anti-glare treatments are going to be visible. The mirror, again, will knock that effect down, making the TV look even superior.

A mirror could also mute image artifacts because, in practice, it is actually distorting the image.

Is this magic? No, it’s science, but probably seems like magic.

Best TV for watching anime (or whatever).

Andy writes in wondering what is the best TV for anime?

I get this type of question – which TV is best for anime, sports, or movies – quite often, but it’s worth talking about periodically.

To address this topic, let’s start out by talking about speakers. When I worked at a loudspeaker firm, people would come into the showroom looking for speakers that were best for rock, EDM, jazz, classical, or country. I understand why: Many folks want speakers that make the music they love sound as good as they want it to.

The best speakers will sound amazing no matter the music genre. If they can sound true to the source – the way the music was meant to sound – they are great speakers. That means that they need to be able to cover the full spectrum of audio frequencies in a balanced way and steer clear of distortion. After that, it’s a matter of taste. Do you want your speakers to put out a ton of bass? Then you need a speaker that can put out a ton of bass. Do you like super aggressive, hot treble that sounds crisp and clean? You’ll want a speaker that can play super high frequencies at very high sound pressure levels without distortion (you might want a horn-loaded tweeter, like the kind you find in a Klipsch, for example). A speaker may sound great for classical or all-acoustic jazz because the bass demands for those genres tend to be lower than for hip-hop or R&B. The treble and upper midrange demands tend to be lower for classical and acoustic jazz than, say, rock, which involves a lot of loud, crunchy guitar distortion.

So, for classical and acoustic jazz and some folk music, a really great bookshelf speaker may be all you need. But for music that places higher demands on the bass or treble regions, a larger tower speaker may be needed. You could also add subwoofers to bookshelf speakers to get closer to what you want. The best speakers, however, can do all, regardless of the music genre.

Apply this logic to TVs. The best TVs are content-agnostic and display everything beautifully. That’s not to say that you can’t target a TV that is sufficient for your more limited needs as opposed to shooting for the moon. (If you’re just doing a bunch of short, in-town driving trips, you could get away with a B&W i3 and its limited range rather than get a Tesla, right?).

The most key aspect of picture quality is contrast. You want the best possible black levels and the brightness will depend largely on the viewing environment and individual tastes. If you just watch TV news, where the image is nothing special, then who cares? Get the brightest TV you can afford and call it good. If you watch a lot of sports, a high refresh rate is key (but I would argue a high refresh rate is always key).

However, for anime, movies, high-quality TV demonstrates, and even high-quality YouTube content, the needs are the same: high contrast, which starts with the best possible black levels, and then accurate, vibrant color. For the image to look good, you’ll need decent processing – that counts for all genres of video content.

If cost is no object and you don’t watch anime during the day with sunlight pouring into the room, get a 55-inch OLED TV that you can afford.

D’Chris writes that he’s closing on a new construction home soon and the builder offers pre-wiring for a 5-channel in-ceiling speaker system. D’Chris knows that the ear-level LCR (left, center, right) speakers would be preferable, but also wonders if they went ahead with the in-ceiling wiring, could the front in-ceilings be repurposed for Atmos channels?

The first thing that comes to mind: Why won’t they wire the LCR for in-walls instead of in-ceilings? Is it because of how the room is set up? If it’s new construction, they should be able to do whatever you want. Also, the wiring runs for in-walls will be shorter than in-ceiling. (Did they already put the sheet-rock up? They can fish it, no problem.).

If in-ceiling is the only option, that’s fine. If you have the means, get it wired up. Go ahead and get in-ceiling speakers installed: Get a high-quality speaker made from a well-respected audio brand – and one that can be aimed at your listening position.

In-ceiling systems can sound awesome if they are set up right and the speakers are well powered. Some in-ceiling speakers even come with their own enclosures – they aren’t the open-baffle design, so they can sound more refined – and less is left to chance.

If you decided it wasn’t good enough – and I do think you’ll be pleasantly surprised – you can continue using the back two speakers as surrounds, set up bookshelf or floorstanding speakers up front, and then use two of the three front in-ceiling speakers as Atmos channels. The center speaker would just be the odd one out. (Most receivers and processors that you’re likely to consider don’t have processing that would allow you to task that speaker as a center-front Atmos channel.).

I’d take discreet front channels in the ceiling with some decent separation over a three-channel passive soundbar any day. I hope that helps and if I missed something, let me know.

If you’re a Sonos owner, I know that right now you’re probably less interested in talking about streaming services, and a lot more concerned about when (or if) the business will ever finish fixing its “new” mobile app. I wish I had something positive to share on that front, but alas, like you, I’m also waiting for the day when I can once again reliably adjust the volume on my speakers.

I’m confident that day will (eventually) come, and I haven’t thrown the towel in on Sonos despite the agony of the past eight months. In the meantime, I want to address a question I’ve been asked several times: What’s the best hi-res streaming service for Sonos owners?

As is so often the case, the answer is (sorry), it depends.

As of 2025, there are only four music streaming services that support improved-than-CD-quality hi-res audio and have song catalogs that are guaranteed to cover a significant number of artists from a wide variety of genres. They are: Amazon Music, Apple Music, Qobuz, and Tidal. All four are compatible with Sonos, which means you can add them to the Sonos app, but that doesn’t mean they’re all treated the same way by Sonos. Here’s what you need to know.

In terms of price, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, Amazon Music is the least expensive option: Even with its recent price hike announcement, Prime members can get an individual plan for $10 per month. If you aren’t a Prime member, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Tidal all cost the same at $11 per month, while Qobuz remains the priciest option at $13 per month.

In the early days of streaming, catalog size could vary a lot between services. Today, they’re essentially at parity, with each service promising the same “more than 100 million tracks” to pick from, with the exception of Tidal, which specifically calls out its more than 110 million tracks on its homepage.

Will Tidal’s extra 10 million tracks make a difference to you? It’s hard to say. None of the services provide a detailed look at their collections, so there’s no way to do a granular comparison by artist, genre, or any other criteria.

What might make a difference is Apple Music’s import function. You can use it to upload any digital music you own. If the track already exists in the Apple Music catalog, that’s the version you’ll have access to. If it doesn’t exist, you’ll stream your uploaded copy. Unfortunately, imports are limited to CD-quality, so this isn’t a way to expand your hi-res catalog.

With the exception of Tidal, which lets you choose Sonos speakers directly from its mobile app, the only way to listen to these services at their maximum quality on a Sonos speaker is via the Sonos app itself. AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth may be more convenient, but they’re both lossy technologies.

Amazon and Tidal fare advanced within the Sonos app — each gives you access to an artist’s top tracks just as you’d get in their standalone mobile app. Qobuz’s integration is arguably the worst. Going to an artist page within Sonos gives you a list of their albums by default, no top tracks anywhere in sight.

Most Sonos consumers have become accustomed to the fact that their speakers work with just about every streaming service you can think of. And while that’s true, not all of these streaming services are treated alike.

From a hi-res point of view, Sonos speakers currently support a maximum lossless quality of 24-bit/48kHz. That’s far lower than the maximum hi-res settings of the four services we’ve been discussing, and yet only Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Qobuz are compatible with this specification. Tidal, for reasons the organization wouldn’t disclose, can only stream to Sonos at CD quality (16-bit/[website].

I don’t want to confuse you: spatial audio and hi-res audio are different things. Hi-res refers to a bit-depth and sample rate for digital music that is higher than CD quality, while spatial audio is a 3D, immersive sound format. They aren’t mutually -res quality (though so far, no streaming services offer this).

So why am I bringing it up? Several Sonos speakers are compatible with both spatial audio and hi-res audio, specifically the Beam Gen 2, Arc, Arc Ultra, and Era 300. If you own any of these products, or can see yourself adding them to your system in the future, you may want to consider a music service that has both hi-res and spatial audio.

Technically, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Tidal qualify. However, Tidal is once again the odd man out — you can’t stream spatial audio tracks in Dolby Atmos Music from Tidal to Sonos at the moment. Only Amazon Music and Apple Music can do that.

On that note, a big part of selecting any music service is your satisfaction with the non-listening attributes. [website] how does it handle music discovery? How easy is it to create, share, and collaborate on playlists? Is it easy to find what you’re looking for using the interface? How about things like lyrics and videos?

This is going to seem super weird given that the whole point of this article has been around selecting a music service with hi-res audio, but hear me out.

Unlike spatial audio, which most people can immediately detect as being different from stereo when they hear it, hi-res audio is a different beast.

It’s designed to offer greater levels of detail than you can get from lossless CD-quality, which is great in theory — but can you hear it?

If you’ve got an audiophile-grade setup, with a high-end network music streamer, amplifier, and speakers, or if you’ve got the equivalent setup for headphones, perhaps you will hear the difference hi-res audio can make. Many people claim they can.

But if we’re being perfectly frank, as great as Sonos’ speakers are, they’re hardly of the spare-no-expense-in-the-pursuit-of-audio-purity variety. Which is to say, it’s absolutely worth listening to CD-quality music on these systems (instead of the lossy compressed sound you’ll get from Spotify or your old MP3s) … you just might not get much of an appreciable bump by going hi-res.

Here’s my suggestion for this conundrum: Take advantage of the free trial period offered by each of the four hi-res services (including Tidal), and add them all to your Sonos system.

Spend the next few days doing your own A/B (or A/B/C/D) comparisons. It can be tricky knowing which tracks are hi-res as opposed to simply CD quality, so here’s a cheat sheet:

In addition to adding all four services to Sonos, download their mobile apps to your phone.

It’s not always obvious inside Sonos which tracks are hi-res, but the mobile apps are usually pretty good at identifying them.

Inside each mobile app, create an identical playlist with some of your favorite tracks — the ones you already know really well — and make sure they’re at least 24-bit/[website] or improved. Add no more than 10 tracks to the playlist to keep it manageable.

When you switch over to the Sonos app, you should be able to access these playlists within their respective services.

Now create a new Sonos playlist and add each track from each service in the same sequence, [website] Amazon Music Track 1 Apple Music Track 1 Qobuz Track 1 Tidal Track 1 Amazon Music Track 2 Apple Music Track 2 etc ….

You should have a Sonos playlist of 40 tracks when you’re done.

Now here’s the fun part: Pick your best/favorite Sonos speaker and start the playlist. Listen to the first 20-30 seconds of each track, then skip forward and repeat.

In theory, the first three versions of each song should sound more effective than the fourth, because the Tidal version will always be in CD quality. If you can’t hear a difference, you might not need to worry about using a hi-res audio service.

I say “in theory” because Sonos won’t always play a hi-res track in hi-res. I’m still looking into it, but some hi-res tracks appear to be getting downsampled to CD quality. I’ve seen it happen frequently on Apple Music and Qobuz, and on Amazon Music too, though of the three it’s the most reliable so far.
