Roblox Error 288 means your active game session lost its authentication link to your account. Roblox periodically re-checks that the player in a session is still the authorized account holder, and when that check fails, you are disconnected with Error 288.
Session token expiry
Your login session has a time limit. If you have been playing for many hours without the client refreshing your token, or if your network dropped briefly at the wrong moment, the re-authentication fails. Logging out and back in refreshes your token.
Multiple device login
If someone logged into your Roblox account on another device, your session on the current device may be invalidated, producing Error 288. Check your account's login activity at roblox.com/settings under Security.
How to fix step by step
- 1Log out of Roblox and log back in to refresh your session token
- 2Check roblox.com/settings > Security for any unfamiliar login activity
- 3Change your password if you see suspicious activity
- 4Ensure only one device is logged into your Roblox account at a time
How 288 differs from related codes
- Error 287: Roblox could not authenticate your account when you tried to join a game. The authentication handshake between your client and Roblox's backend servers failed. (usually server-side)
- Error 401: Roblox could not authorize your session — login or token expired. (server or client)
- Error 6: Roblox was unable to establish a connection to the game server. The client timed out before a session could be created. (server or client)
