Assassin's Creed Shadows prequel announced

Assassin's Creed Shadows will get an official prequel story, fittingly told by a tie-in manga series.
But rather than simply adapting the story of Ubisoft's upcoming feudal Japan stabathon, the series will instead be set some time prior.
The manga's first slice will be available in Japan alongside Shadows itself, when it arrives on 20th March. Elsewhere in the world, however, we'll have to wait a little longer.
"Follow the story of a young Assassin apprentice, as she fights against the growing presence of the Templars order in Japan," reads Ubisoft's description of the manga series. "Available in Japan at the launch of the game and later elsewhere."
Cover art for the first issue presents a young female Assassin wielding a sword as well as the iconic Hidden Blade. Is this Naoe, the shinobi co-protagonist of Shadows itself? I'm not sure.
#AssassinsCreedShadows will get its own manga!
Discover the official prequel of the game. Follow the story a young Assassin apprentice, as she fights against the growing presence of the Templars order in Japan.
For starters, the moment that Naoe obtains the Hidden Blade for the first time is actually shown early on in Assassin's Creed Shadows itself - meaning she likely isn't the menacing looking Assassin shown here. Beyond that, its opening sequences - which Eurogamer has now played - seem to indicate Naoe isn't yet versed in who either of the Assassins or the Templars are.
So, this looks to be an entirely different protagonist entirely - unless Ubisoft has some other kind of time-wimey shenanigans going on.
Earlier this week, spoilers for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows popped up online after the game's unreleased artbook was leaked via an adult cartoon website.
"Shadows looks to be very much on track to become that feudal Japanese fantasy we've long been hankering for," our Katharine wrote in Eurogamer's Assassin's Creed Shadows hands-on preview. "If Ubisoft can stick the landing on this one, it will be worth the extended wait."

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes DLC Roadmap Includes Three Story Expansions Coming Soon

505 Games has revealed that Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will receive three story expansions within the next few months. Each one will cost $8.
The first one is called The Chapter of Marisa, launching on February 27. This story revolves around Marisa's encounter with an enchanted girl who ends up being Marisa's companion. The two go out on an adventure to uncover the secrets behind the "Child of the Rune."
The second story is The Chapter of Seign, which is launches on March 13. Seign parts ways with Nowa's troupe to address an issue within the Galdean empire. Here, Seign must conduct a covert mission to find out what really happened inside the empire.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is getting three expansions.
The last expansion titled, The Chapter of Markus, releases on April 3. Here, Markus, Carrie, and Nowa find a mysterious portal called Menhir's Distortion. As they go inside of it, they'll discover a realm beyond their own and learn more about Markus's past.
Eiyuden Chronicle is a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, with the studio Rabbit & Bear consisting of ex-Konami developers. Hundred Heroes is also getting a sequel despite the creator's death last year. While Hundred Heroes is a turn-based RPG, its prequel, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a side-scrolling action RPG. Hundred Heroes is available on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, as well as through Xbox Game Pass.
In GameSpot's Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes review, we expressed, "Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a retro-JRPG throwback that delivers with great characters, an engaging story, and fun gameplay progression."

Capcom Spotlight - everything announced in February's showcase

It's been a bit of a busy one for Capcom, what with the publisher airing not one but two showcases to demo its latest wares this week. One half of that dealt with Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its release this month, but Capcom also had a few things to share about its other titles. So if you missed its latest Spotlight, you'll find everything unveiled and featured below.
Mai Shiranui's fighting pass for Street Fighter 6.
We already knew Fatal Fury's Mai Shiranui was making the jump to Street Fighter 6 this week, and we got a further look at her "agile movements, tricky projectiles, and quick attacks" in Capcom's latest showcase. Mai comes to Street Fighter 6 on 5th February PST, arriving alongside the Say Hello to Mai fighting pass - which includes customisation items relating to Mai and Fatal Fury. And as for what's next, Elena is set to complete the character roster for Year 2.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics finally arrives on Xbox.
After a pause to highlight this year's Capcom Cup 11 - which will be determining the Street Fighter 6 world champion between 5th-9th March - it was time to move onto Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. This seven-game compilation has been out on PlayStation, Switch, and PC since last year, but technical issues held back its Xbox release.
Those have finally been resolved, however, and it's now available digitally on Microsoft's console - gathering together X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes, and The Punisher.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 gets May release date.
Capcom's other fighting collection, the economically titled Capcom Fighting Collection 2, also has a release date. As well as a whole bunch of artwork and previously unseen development documents, this compilation functions eight titles: Capcom vs SNK, Capcom vs SNK 2, Project Justice, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Plasma Sword, Power Stone, and Power Stone 2. It comes to PlayStation, Switch, PC, and, yes, Xbox on 16th May - and pre-orders unlock two additional songs for gallery mode.
Okami bits and a Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess demo.
It doesn't have a name, and it's still probably years off, but that didn't stop Capcom re-airing the same Okami sequel announcement trailer it debuted during December's The Game Awards. The publisher paired this segment with a spotlight on its demo for the excellent Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, plus the news that Path of the Goddess and the original Okami are both now available in a two-game bundle.
More details of Onimusha: Way of the Sword emerge.
This all-new entry in Capcom's fondly remembered Onimusha series was another Game Awards debutante. For its latest airing, though, Capcom highlighted some of the key areas it's focusing on to make Way of the Sword "as captivating as possible". These include its new protagonist (plus enemies that are interesting "more than just visually"), its setting, and its combat.
Set in a "beautifully eerie depiction" of Edo-period Kyoto, Onimusha: Way of the Sword tells the heroic tale of a samurai who wields an Oni gauntlet, feeding it the souls of monsters roaming the land of the living. Doing so involves swordplay with a particular emphasis on the satisfaction of slicing through enemies, and players can use the souls they collect to restore health and trigger special moves. Capcom says combat will be intense when Way of the Sword arrives in 2026, but stresses it's not trying to make an "impossibly difficult" game.
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is being remastered.
If 2026 is just too long to wait for your Onimusha fix, Capcom has you covered. The publisher also used its latest Spotlight to announce a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, which originally launched back in 2002. There's not a whole lot to study on this just yet, but it's coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC sometime this year.
And with that, we're pretty much done with the first part of Capcom's showcase. The publisher's having a digital sale across various platforms right now if you're in the mood to sample its wares at a discount, and if you missed it, there's a round-up of Capcom's latest Monster Hunter Wilds' showcase elsewhere on Eurogamer.
