Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 sells more than 1 million copies in just 1 day

Lest there be any doubt, the medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a hit, selling more than one million copies in its first day of release.

"Over a million of you have stepped into our world," developer Warhorse Studios . "We're beyond grateful for your support—thank you for making KCD2 a triumph!"

By way of comparison, the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance took 10 days to break a million copies sold, which in itself is quite good for a game that, as we noted at the time, was "buggy as hell [and] demands high-end hardware to run properly." Because despite its issues, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a really good RPG, and its successor is even advanced: PC Gamer's Joshua Wolens called it "a new RPG classic" in his 90% review, while hardware guru Nick Evanson found it a far smoother, more stable, and bug-free experience.

Reflecting its sales success, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is also seeing some enviable player numbers on Steam. At this very moment—mid-day on a Wednesday, to be specific—more than 166,000 people are playing it on Steam alone, good enough to put it amongst the top five on the Steam charts and the top 100 most-played Steam games of all time. That's a big jump over the first game, which peaked at around 96,000.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also holds a "very positive" rating on Steam—92% of the more than 6,100 user reviews posted so far are positive—and over on Metacritic, it's sitting pretty with an 88 aggregate rating, giving it the top spot amongst games released in 2025.

February is a big, busy month, and stiff competition is on the way from anticipated games including Civilization 7 (February 11), Avowed (February 18), and Monster Hunter Wilds (February 27), which promises to be a very big deal. But, with all due respect to all the other games on the verge of launch, that's a full week before the next heavyweight contender arrives—I don't think we'll see those Steam player numbers tailing off meaningfully anytime soon, especially with a weekend coming.

If you're just getting started in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, or are planning to soon, PC Gamer's crack editorial staff has some helpful hints for getting off on the right foot: Fraser Brown advises that "chivalry is overrated, do some murders," Morgan Park explains how a life of crime might have some long-term downsides, and Joshua Wolens has a hard-learned lesson on how to avoid screwing up alchemy after 75 hours of screwing up alchemy. You can also dive into a bunch of somewhat more practical tips below.

Try this mod to calm Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s stuttering on PC

Nic says that RPG remake sequel Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is "uneven, unfocused, and unmissable". You also can’t miss its regular performance hiccups, which most often manifest as little but frequent stutters that occur as you’re moseying around its poorly planet.

Or can you? News comes via Nic himself that modder FrancisLouis, whose previous works include performance-enhancing rejigs of various games (and one that turns the Silent Hill 2 remake’s pipe weapon into a rigid, A-posing wife), has produced Fantasy Optimizer: an overhaul of how FF7 Rebirth handles shaders and streamed visuals. Both Nic and myself have tried it out on our respective rigs, and it works! Mostly.

In my case I still get the occasional hitch when traversing new areas, but otherwise, it does run noticeably smoother. Especially during the fighty bits, which pre-mod could suffer from microstutter every time I pulled out my fancier moves. Nic sounds like he’s had even more luck, with less visible object pop-in on top of the smoothness enhancements.

The NexusMods description does, to be fair, warn that Fantasy Optimizer can work enhanced on some PCs than others. To quote: "While these changes are designed to improve performance for most players, results can vary depending on your system’s hardware, software setup, and specific in-game situations.

"Some players may see noticeable improvements, while others might not experience significant changes."

Still, it’s worth giving it a go if you’re getting a bit bored of all those minipauses. Installation is easy too: first, head to Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Final Fantasy VII Rebirth > End > Content > Paks, then create a new folder named “~mods” (without the quote marks). Then download the mod pak from NexusMods (I recommend Version 2), extract it from the download folder, and paste it into that ~mods folder.

Mere days ago, FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi was bigging up the game-sustaining power of a free and open modding ecosystem, while politely asking modders to refrain from giving - and these are Nic's words, not mine - Cait Sith a dump truck ass. "Mods have played a significant role in the rise of the PC market", he says. "Look at series like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls – even years after release, new mods breathe life into these games, making players want to come back to them."

Hamaguchi added that "Volunteer communities often move faster than the companies that produced the source material", while - in my mind - slowly turning his head to look at FrancisLouis, who was replacing the Buster Sword with Aerith's character model in the next building over, before giving an almost imperceptibly small yet immediately understood nod of approval.

Resident Evil's multiplayer spin-off Re:Verse is shutting down later this year

Resident Evil Re:Verse, the multiplayer spin-off unveiled alongside Resident Evil Village, is being shut down. Capcom say that the game and its DLC will be delisted from stores next month and its servers will go offline in June.

"Resident Evil Re:Verse was developed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your overwhelming support for the game has far exceeded our expectations since the time of its release. Now that we've reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably," says Capcom's announcement of end of service.

"We are incredibly grateful for your warm support for Resident Evil Re:Verse, and we deeply apologize for bringing you this disappointing news."

Re:Verse and all of its DLC will be removed from online stores on March 3rd at 9pm PST (March 4th at 5am GMT). The servers will go offline on June 29th at 11:59pm PDT (June 30th at 8:59am BST). The game will no longer be playable once the servers are switched off.

The multiplayer spin-off is a six-player deathmatch with playable goodies from across the series' long history and potions which turn you temporarily into one of its many baddies. It wasn't well received when it launched in 2022. Releasing a multiplayer spin-off no one wants, no one likes, then closing it down shortly thereafter is all very Capcom, bless 'em.

The above statement alludes to a "new turning point for the series". Rumours continue to swirl around a Resident Evil 9 announcement to happen sometime this year.
