Apex Legends Season 24 Lets Livestreamers Run The Show

A new gameplay trailer for Apex Legends' upcoming Season 24: Takeover has been released, and it functions a major surprise: Respawn is kicking off Apex's sixth anniversary by letting content creators step into the shoes of the (fictional) Apex Games Commissioner, Kuben Blisk.

Four different "Content Commissioners" will take the stage from February 25 to April 28 (two weeks per content creator), introducing special challenges for players to overcome, , and fan-favorite limited-time modes for the duration of their two-week takeover.

For the first week of each Content Commissioner takeover, players will "chase glory together to complete Community challenges and ultimately determine how many Apex Packs will be up for grabs the following week," .

The community goals for the first week of each takeover are as follows:

Complete Tier 1 challenges: 10 Apex Packs earnable.

10 Apex Packs earnable Complete Tier 2 challenges: 15 Apex Packs earnable.

15 Apex Packs earnable Complete Tier 3 challenges: 20 Apex Packs earnable.

The second week of each takeover is when players will get a chance to earn those Apex Packs. Players will be faced with five in-game challenges. Players who complete all five will gain access to the Apex Packs they unlocked during the previous week, along with a special Creator Commissioner-selected Legendary-tier weapon skin.

Players can also earn a free banner frame via Twitch Drops if they tune in to a Twitch stream from an approved Apex Legends content creator. A free Creator Commissioner-themed stat tracker will be available for players to gift to their friends via the in-game store.

The Apex Legends Season 24 Creator Commissioners schedule--and the Legendary-tier skins they've chosen for their two-week time in the spotlight--are listed below:

February 25 - March 10: Ninjayla (Legendary skin: Death Ray Wingman).

Ninjayla (Legendary skin: Death Ray Wingman) March 11 - 24: Oraxe (Legendary skin: The Pioneer Kraber).

Oraxe (Legendary skin: The Pioneer Kraber) April 1 - 14: Apryze (Legendary skin: Bone Breaker Mastiff).

Apryze (Legendary skin: Bone Breaker Mastiff) April 15 - 28: Kaminari Qpi (Legendary skin: Tombstick Mastiff).

Respawn hasn't yet revealed which limited-time modes will be available during the Creator Commissioner takeovers, though more information is likely to be shared when the Season 24 patch notes are released. The trailer did mention that both Ash and Ballistic were buffed, and details on those changes will also be available once patch notes are live.

The trailer also gave players a glimpse of the game's new Arsenals: special Loot Bins available in battle royale mode that include a weapon, ammo for that weapon, and a special attachment or hop-up for that weapon.

GTA 6: Everything we know about Rockstar’s next game

GTA 6: Everything we know about Rockstar’s next game

is a journalist with more than 17 years of experience covering video games, technology, movies, TV, and entertainment.

After more than a decade, Rockstar Games will finally deliver a sequel to Grand Theft Auto 5, the open-world crime spree that has sold more than 200 million copies across multiple console generations. In 2023, GTA fans got their first official look at Grand Theft Auto 6 in the form of a teaser trailer.

We already knew some details about GTA 6, after an unprecedented leak of the game in 2022, but the game’s first trailer blew the lid off. It’s full of street-level chaos, including illegal street races, convenience-store robberies, gator wrangling, and general Floridian weirdness. The trailer also presents its dual protagonists getting up to all sorts of low-level crime.

Here’s everything we do know about Grand Theft Auto 6 so far.

Rockstar hasn’t presented a release date yet for Grand Theft Auto 6, but publisher Take-Two Interactive has narrowed down a release window: fall 2025. The publisher reconfirmed that timing in a February 2025 earnings call.

While GTA 6 may be targeting a fall 2025 release, Rockstar is famous for delaying its biggest games in the name of polish. Its last major release, Red Dead Redemption 2, was publicly delayed three times. And back in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 saw a significant delay, slipping from its original spring release date to its ultimate September 2013 launch.

In other words, even if Rockstar gives us a release date or window, history tells us that nothing is set in stone.

Good news. It’s out! Rockstar released the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer in December 2023 — a day early, in response to a leak. Enjoy the chaotic South Florida vibes, which are set to Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road.”.

OK, but when does the NEXT GTA 6 trailer come out?

Rockstar hasn’t presented a second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, despite the community desperately searching for clues for a GTA 6 trailer 2 release date. Suffice it to say, when Rockstar is ready to show more GTA 6 footage, it will announce it loudly and proudly.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in Vice City, GTA’s fictional version of Miami. That location was previously explored in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and its 2006 prequel, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Those entries were set during the mid-1980s, but GTA 6 will tell a modern-day, Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story featuring two leads named Jason and Lucia, based on early gameplay videos and leaks. Lucia would be the GTA series’ first playable female protagonist in a mainline game.

In 2022, more than 90 videos of the in-development version of Grand Theft Auto 6 were . The hacker responsible claimed to have accessed the videos — some 50 minutes in total footage — directly from Rockstar Games’ internal Slack.

Those leaks show police chases, robberies, gunplay, open-world driving, a crowded nightclub scene, and conversations with full voice acting. The game footage was clearly not intended to be shown publicly, with debug programming elements visible on-screen at the time.

One of the longer videos showed the female player character robbing a diner, as well as threatening staff and consumers, who react in fear to having a gun pulled on them. Then she and her male accomplice get in a shootout with police before jumping in the police patrol car and driving off. The game’s graphical treatment is quite realistic, but still consistent with GTA games’ style.

Reportedly since 2014, though Rockstar did not officially acknowledge the game’s existence until February 2022.

What platforms will GTA 6 be released on?

GTA publisher Take-Two Interactive introduced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2025. A PC version has not been introduced. That’s not uncommon for Grand Theft Auto games, though; the series has had staggered releases on consoles and PC, and the lack of an introduced PC version certainly doesn’t rule one out at this point.

In May 2024, at a tech conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the question (albeit indirectly) about a PC port of GTA 6, saying “the lack of an announcement is not something that could be set in stone, near as I could tell.”.

“Rockstar has an approach to platforms we’ve seen before, and they will make more announcements in due time,” Zelnick added. “I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this organization has done is address consumers anywhere they are, [on] any platform that makes sense, over time.”.

There’s another potential platform coming that could be home to Grand Theft Auto 6: Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar has embraced the Switch with releases like [website] Noire, Red Dead Redemption, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, so don’t rule out an eventual release of GTA 6 on Switch 2, which is also confirmed for a 2025 launch.

Rockstar and publisher Take-Two haven’t revealed a price point, but it seems likely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will carry a $[website] price point, increasingly the standard for AAA video games with big budgets. But expect pricing to be one of the very last things that Rockstar announces when it comes to revealing new details about GTA 6.

Speculation that Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost, at a base level, $100 appears to come from a study from Epyllion analyst Matthew Ball. In his presentation The State of Video Gaming in 2025, Ball stated that “some gamemakers hope GTA 6 will be priced at $80-100, breaking the $70 barrier” and effectively raising the price going forward of many video games.

Ball’s presentation garnered a lot of buzz on social media, even though he never unveiled GTA 6 will cost $100, just that some game makers would certainly like to see that happen. The situation is not unlike earlier comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, which were misinterpreted to imply that GTA 6 could cost up to $150 or be priced by the hour.

Of course, there may be higher-priced premium or collector’s edition versions of GTA 6 that cost more than the increasingly industry-standard buy-in price of $[website] When Rockstar launched Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, it released a standard $[website] version of the game alongside a $[website] special edition and a $[website] ultimate edition. The game maker could follow a similar pricing scheme for GTA 6, but the real windfall will come after the game’s release, in the form of game subscriptions and sales of premium currencies.

Hold your horses (and your pre-orders) until Rockstar makes the price of GTA 6 official.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake exceeded Square Enix expectations, but game sales drop overall

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake exceeded Square Enix expectations, but game sales drop overall

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D exceeded Square Enix's sales expectations, though net sales for games over the last nine months have overall been in decline.

While the corporation's latest earnings analysis doesn't specify total sales of Dragon Quest 3, the corporation previously shared it had shipped and downloaded 2m copies. Further, , Dragon Quest 3 became the top-selling game in Japan for the entirety of 2024 in just one week.

Square Enix is notorious for setting high sales estimates of its games, particularly the Final Fantasy series - most lately it admitted Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 profits did not meet expectations. For Dragon Quest 3 to do so means the game has either sold exceptionally well, or the enterprise had lower estimates this time.

Still, overall net sales for Square Enix's games are down [website] percent year on year, while overall profits dropped by [website] percent.

That's in part due to a decline in its HD games, with the likes of last year's Visions of Mana, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and Fantasian Neo Dimension failing to live up to the previous year's Final Fantasy 16 and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. Profit here was up, though, thanks to Dragon Quest 3.

Both sales and profits for MMO games increased year on year, in large part due to the release of the latest Final Fantasy 14 expansion Dawntrail.

The biggest change, though, is the plummet in net sales for the firm's mobile games by over 32 percent. In the last couple of years Square Enix shut down a number of its mobile games, including Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, and Final Fantasy 7 battle royale The First Soldier.

Despite these closures, profits from mobile games ([website] yen) were still higher than HD games ([website] yen), both of which are dwarfed by MMOs ([website] yen).

It's no wonder, then, the organization is developing a mobile version of Final Fantasy 14. It's currently without a release date, but will be free-to-play without gacha mechanics.

So what's next for Square Enix? The third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy is still a ways off, and Final Fantasy 14 won't receive another expansion this year. Most in the recent past the organization released Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC as part of the organization's new multiplatform strategy. Xbox ports of these games would be the next obvious choice, though perhaps we could see Final Fantasy games coming to Switch 2 too.

Similar HD remakes of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 are also on the way this year, which will likely have high sales expectations.
