Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate has been missing in action for a while, but its series creator promises it's still trudging along.

We've known that Dragon Quest 12 has been in the works since at least 2019, and it was officially introduced with the subtitle The Flames of Fate way back in 2021, four years ago now. Things have been a bit quiet when it comes to the 12th game in the intervening years, but Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii did actually share an revision on the game over the weekend, even if it was just a small one. As part of a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii shared that the team dev team is currently "working hard on Dragon Quest 12", and that he's hoping they can share new information about it bit by bit (translations via Automaton).

Fans were a bit concerned about the fact of Dragon Quest 12 last year due to the fact that long-time Dragon Quest producer Yu Miyake moved to Square Enix's mobile games division, stepping down from his position as producer. In May of last year, following unveiled departure, Horii shared an revision, which was also literally just a "don't worry, the game is still in the works" type of revision, but at least this most recent revision does still confirm that progress is happening.

Right now, there's not much known about Dragon Quest 12 in general. Horii suggested at its announcement that the battle system might be different, and that it'll be targeted more towards adults, though perhaps with Final Fantasy 16 not doing quite as well as Square Enix had hoped it might have shifted to a more broader audience. It's also aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release, so whenever it does finally come out, you can potentially celebrate on the same day as Japan.

GTA 6 PC version teased by Take-Two boss, acknowledges platform's growing importance

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has discussed the growing importance of the PC market, though stopped short of outright confirming GTA 6 will be heading to PC.

GTA 6 is currently slated for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but there's been no mention of a PC release so far. That's surprising in 2025, when big releases are often released simultaneously across all three platforms, or at least follow up soon with PC.

Speaking to IGN, Zelnick teased a PC release of GTA 6 will be on the way, but the corporation tends not to "go across all platforms simultaneously".

"So with Civ 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away," Zelnick stated, making comparison with Firaxis' in the recent past launched Civilization 7. "With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

Interestingly, Zelnick admitted that the PC version of a multiplatform game can generate 40 percent of overall sales. As a result, the PC platform is growing in importance.

"We have seen PC become a much more essential part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue," he mentioned.

Still, the focus for GTA 6 for now are the console releases, which Zelnick expects to boost console sales in response.

"When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," Zelnick unveiled.

"And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar '25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

So why no PC release for GTA 6 at present? As Zelnick noted, Rockstar has traditionally started with console releases in the past: GTA 5, for instance, released in September 2013 while the PC version (initially aiming for simultaneous release) was delayed until April 2015.

Rockstar also has a torrid history with modders, including the infamous Hot Coffee mod.

Just last month, the enterprise shut down an ambitious mod that put a playable version of GTA 4's Liberty City inside GTA 5.

Dragon Quest 12 Still in Development, Dev Reassures

Dragon Quest 12 Still in Development, Dev Reassures

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has reassured fans that the next mainline entry in the RPG series, Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, is still very much in development. Almost four years on from its original announcement, fans have just a logo to fuel their excitement for the follow-up to Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. However, Horii states there is no need to worry.

In a livestream over the weekend, the series creator quickly passed comment on the next mainline project, revealing the developer is "working hard on Dragon Quest XII". He hopes that more information about the game will be released "little by little".

While the Dragon Quest series is alive and well through other titles like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, the continuation of the franchise through entirely new games has stalled somewhat. Dragon Quest XII was originally presented in 2021, and meaningful updates concerning the RPG have been few and far between. Most not long ago, series producer Yu Miyake was moved to Square Enix's smartphone division.
