Veeam backup software has a serious security flaw - here's how to stay safe

Multiple Veeam Backup products were found carrying a critical severity vulnerability that allowed malicious actors to run arbitrary commands on compromised endpoints.
The corporation presented the vulnerability was discovered in the Veeam Updater component, allowing threat actors to run man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks, executing arbitrary codes with root-level permissions. It is now tracked as CVE-2025-23114, and comes with a severity score of [website] (critical).
Multiple products are vulnerable, including Veeam Backup for Salesforce ([website] and older), for Nutanix AHV ([website] and [website], for AWS (6a and 7), for Microsoft Azure (5a and 6), for Google Cloud (4 and 5), and Veeam Backup for Oracle Linux Virtualization manager and Red Hat Virtualization (3, [website], and [website].

Veeam also stressed that not everyone is vulnerable: "If a Veeam Backup & Replication deployment is not protecting AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Nutanix AHV, or Oracle Linux VM/Red Hat Virtualization, such a deployment is not impacted by the vulnerability," it said.
Veeam’s solutions are popular among SMBs and enterprises, and as such are often targeted. In mid-October last year, researchers warned of cybercriminals abusing a vulnerability in Veeam Backup & Replication, tracked as CVE-2024-40711. This bug allowed them to create a local account which they subsequently used to deploy two ransomware variants: Fog and Akira.
The researchers observed a handful of attack attempts. Admins were advised to upgrade to the latest version to mitigate the risk of exploitation.

Zyxel says it won’t patch security flaws in its old routers

Security researchers warn of two Zyxel flaws being abused in the wild.
The manufacturer confirmed the findings but noted the devices are no longer supported.

Zyxel has acknowledged a number of security issues with some of its most popular routers, but says it won't be issuing any patches due to the devices reaching their end-of-life.
Security researchers first discovered two vulnerabilities in a number of Zyxel’s internet-connected devices in summer 2024, and warned earlier this month that the flaws are being exploited in the wild.
In a newly released security advisory, the Taiwanese networking gear manufacturer acknowledged the flaws, and the fact that they’re being abused in the wild, but stressed that the vulnerable devices are past their end-of-life date and thus are no longer supported. Instead, clients should migrate to newer, still supported devices.
The two vulnerabilities are tracked as CVE-2024-40891 (improper command validation), and CVE-2025-0890 (weak default credentials flaw).
“Zyxel in recent times became aware of CVE-2024-40890 and CVE-2024-40891 being mentioned in a post on GreyNoise’s blog.
Additionally, VulnCheck informed us that they will publish the technical details regarding CVE-2024-40891 and CVE-2025-0890 on their blog. We have confirmed that the affected models , VMG1312-B10A, VMG1312-B10B, VMG1312-B10E, VMG3312-B10A, VMG3313-B10A, VMG3926-B10B, VMG4325-B10A, VMG4380-B10A, VMG8324-B10A, VMG8924-B10A, SBG3300, and SBG3500, are legacy products that have reached end-of-life (EOL) for years.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that consumers replace them with newer-generation products for optimal protection,” Zyxel presented in the advisory.
In its writeup, BleepingComputer says that both FOFA and Censys are showing more than 1,500 Zyxel CPE Series devices exposed to the internet, suggesting that the attack surface is “significant”. At the same time, VulnCheck also shared a proof-of-concept (PoC) against VMG4325-B10A running firmware version [website], showing that the attack is more than just theoretical.
"While these systems are older and seemingly long out of support, they remain highly relevant due to their continued use worldwide and the sustained interest from attackers," VulnCheck presented. "The fact that attackers are still actively exploiting these routers underscores the need for attention, as understanding real-world attacks is critical to effective security research."

Caselani’s Type-Ami adds retro charm to one of the smallest EVs on sale.

For all of the Citroen Ami’s many charms, striking good looks don’t exactly rank top of the list. But one Italian coach builder has a solution for the awkward little quadricycle.
Based in the tiny town of Sospiro, Italy, coach builder and fabricator Caselani takes modern Citroen products and clads them in fiberglass so they look just like the iconic Type-H Van panel vans of the late 1940s.
The corrugated metal outer body panels and angular lines will forever go down in the history books as a classic piece of industrial design, but the plucky panel vans have in the recent past enjoyed a resurgence thanks to swathes of hipster coffee and food trucks that have used them as a base for tasty operations.
Caselani will fabricate a modern interpretation of one of those (based on Citroen Berlingo, Relay and Dispatch vans) but it is the Ami project that really stands out from the crowd.
For a start, it takes a brave soul to use an Ami as a food truck, which means the Type-Ami is purely designed to raise smiles.
For €13,900 (around $13,400 / £11,600 / AU$21,300), Caselani will sell you a complete vehicle, including the option to swap the plastic seats and steering wheel trim for diamond-quilted faux leather.
That’s about $3k more than the standard Ami, but clients can choose from six classic 1950s colors, or opt for one of three more modern metallic hues. Oh, and you get jazzy 'steelie' style wheels thrown in, too.
If you already own one of the diminutive 8bhp, 28mph top speed city-slickers, you can option the DIY body kit for €4,440 (around $4,500 / £3,700 / AU$7,200), which adds the corrugated side panels, gloriously pug-nosed front end and a rear with ‘Type-Ami’ stamped in period correct white lettering.
It all comes with the right screws and brackets to self install, if you fancy many scraped thumbs and lots of swearing.
The lovable Ami gets even more appealing.
As a reminder, the Citroen Ami is classed as a heavy quadricycle in France and, thanks to its 8hp electric motor and limited top speed, it can legally be driven by 14-year-olds... for around 46 miles before the [website] lithium-ion battery dies or mom texts to warn that dinner is on the table.
But far from simply being a young teenager’s ticket to freedom, the Ami has gained popularity in Europe as cheap urban mobility, featuring on a number of inner-city car sharing schemes and finding homes with private buyers that want a fuss-free way to get to the shops and back.
