After battling AT&T for months with no satisfaction, woman turns to local television to get refund

Melody Kasick said that she normally avoids talking to people stationed inside kiosks who are trying to push some money-saving plan on her. For some reason, this time she stopped at an AT&T kiosk after the sales rep promised her that they could save her money. To top it off, she found the deal being pushed by AT&T to be intriguing . As she recalls it, the plan would reward her for being on autopay by bundling a new cellphone and her internet service.
As a person who likes to get proof, she asked the salesman for a receipt and he told her not to worry about it because the receipt would be on the phone. So when Kasick left the store, she had no proof that a transaction was done. She had no confirmation number or any documentation of any kind. Of course, something went wrong quickly as within two days she received a pair of handsets from AT&T . But feeling overwhelmed, she didn't handle everything the way that she should have and sent back both phones to AT&T without even opening the packages.
After shipping the phones back to AT&T , Kasick received paperwork showing that AT&T had received the two phones and this, she figured, was the end of this sad little chapter of her life. Except that it wasn't the end of this chapter after all as she started receiving monthly bills from the carrier even though they showed that she didn't use the service at all. And when she called AT&T , they requested a passcode that she didn't have and had never received. Because they couldn't verify her identity, the carrier would hang up on Melody.
Kasick eventually went to an AT&T Store to speak with a manager who told her that he couldn't remove the autopay even though he tried to stop it. So our heroine decided to get in touch with Sacramento's KXTV, a local ABC affiliate with a series called "10 On Your Side" dedicated to helping consumers. Within 24 hours after contacting the television station, Kasick received back the $500 she had paid AT&T .
If there is a lesson to be learned here, it is to make sure that you get a receipt whenever you lay out any money, whether it be via cash or a credit card, to complete a transaction with a wireless provider.

Google simplifies how you pause, resume, and end chats with Gemini Live

The improvement allows you to hold, continue, or end a conversation with the AI without needing to access the app.
Gemini Live now uses a call chip instead of an icon to let you know it’s running in the background.
If you follow our APK teardowns, you may remember that last year we found a change to Gemini Live related to how a user pauses or continues a conversation. Google is now starting to roll out that enhancement for some people.
Back in November, we learned Google was working to streamline how you interact with Gemini Live as it runs in the background. Previously, if you hid the AI in the background, you’d see the app’s icon in the status bar. By going to the notifications panel, you could see a notification that tells you Gemini is listening, along with an action to “End Live mode.” If you wanted to hold or continue your conversation, you’d have to open the app. You can see the old behavior in the screenshots below.
In the new behavior, however, the notification had been changed to include two buttons. One of those buttons allowed you to pause or continue the conversation, while the other let you hang up on Gemini. Additionally, the Gemini logo in the status bar was replaced with a call chip that presents a live count, as you can see below.
As confirmed by 9to5Google, it appears this modification is starting to land on some phones. , they saw the change on a Pixel 9 Pro, which had the Google app running on beta version [website] They reportedly have not seen the change on any of their other devices. We have not seen this change yet on any of our devices either.
As with any APK teardown, discovered aspects can change before the final product is released. Overall, it doesn’t seem like much has changed from what we saw earlier. The only difference here is that the Gemini sparkle in the notification has been replaced by a different icon.

AT&T’s latest tool to fight robocalls tells you why a business is calling

This feature is an expansion of the Branded Call Display service launched last year.
The reason for a call will only appear on Android phones.
Last year, AT&T and TransUnion launched a service called Branded Call Display that allows businesses to make branded calls. If you got a call from a business that opted into the program, you’d see its brand name and logo on your phone’s screen. This way it’s easier to tell if it’s a robocaller or a real business on the line. Now that feature is being expanded to tell you why a business is calling.
Today, AT&T and TransUnion announced that AT&T wireless customers will start to see the reason why a business is calling them. You won’t need to download an app or do anything as this is part of the STIR/SHAKEN call authentication protocol, which helps carriers identify spam calls.
With this new function, if a business were to call you, it can choose to display a message like “refill reminder,” “delivery service,” or “patient callback.” This message will be shown on the call details page, helping you decide whether to pick up the phone or not. So if you were to order something off of DoorDash or Grubhub, theoretically, once you got a call, you’d know that your driver is waiting at the door.
When Branded Call Display rolled out, it was a service that was only available to Android devices. Since reason for a call is an expansion of Branded Call Display, only Android owners will see this new feature. However, things may change in the future , the SVP of TruContact Communications Solutions at TransUnion. “We expect that capability to become standard on all mobile devices over time,” Garvert told The Verge.
