Drive Smarter: Major App Joins Android Auto & CarPlay

Drive Smarter: Major App Joins Android Auto & CarPlay

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are taking different paths. Google is adding more apps, while Apple stays quiet about future plans.

Google is expanding Android Auto with a new program called “car-ready mobile apps.” This will bring more apps to the platform. Developers are excited to bring their apps to both Android Auto and CarPlay.

One new app, DKV Mobility, now works with Android Auto and CarPlay. people just need to revision the app on their phones.

DKV Mobility helps drivers find gas stations and charging points. It also lets them pay for fuel without leaving their cars. The app provides access to:

A navigation tool to plan routes based on a vehicle’s range.

On Android Auto and CarPlay, the app doesn’t have every mobile feature. But customers can still find gas stations, charging points, and car washes on the car’s screen. Each listing displays fuel types and charging details, helping EV drivers find what they need without checking their phones.

DKV Mobility isn’t the only app of its kind. Many drivers already use PlugShare, ChargePoint, and ABRP for EV charging and route planning. Still, more apps on Android Auto and CarPlay make driving easier.

Google Wants More Apps, Apple Stays Quiet.

Google is working to add new app categories, including:

Once these attributes arrive, drivers may be able to browse the web, play games, or watch videos in their cars. Netflix might even launch an Android Auto app.

Apple has not showcased plans to expand CarPlay. A new version of CarPlay is in development, but Apple has not shared details.

For now, Android Auto is growing, while Apple remains secretive about CarPlay’s future.

Google Chat expanding Markdown support, Gemini summaries

Google Chat is getting a pair of updates with real-time Markdown formatting and more Gemini summaries.

Google Chat has long supported Markdown and graphical formatting options. The former is now being updated with real-time formatting instead of only converting after a message has been sent. Once you complete a section, it will get formatted, with that menu automatically appearing.

The messaging app is also adding code formatting and code blocks in the compose bar. This is rolling out now to all consumers.

Meanwhile, Gemini summaries in Google Chat are now coming to direct messages after just being for group conversations, spaces, or threads in the Home view. They will also now appear for read conversations, instead of just unread chats.

In other Workspace news this week, enterprise consumers now have access to document and presentation upload in Gemini. You can analyze and summarize the following file formats:

Document files: DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX.

Presentations created with Google Slides.

Rounding things out are some updates for Google Vids:

…enables clients to add looping animations to text, stickers, and other shapes in their videos. Looping animations play continuously between enter and exit animations, allowing clients to add extra emphasis or style to callouts, supers, and other elements in their videos….

There are also new AI voiceover options that “offer more natural and expressive voice overs that dynamically adjust pitch and tone to match your script.”.

Where to stream Anora in Canada

Where to stream Anora in Canada

Even if you’re not much of a cinephile, you probably have heard of one of the most talked-about films last year, Anora. After all, it garnered rave reviews, won Cannes’ prestigious Palme D’Or and is up for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Written and directed by Sean Baker, the film tells the story of sex worker Anora (Madison), whose whirlwind marriage to the son of a Russian oligarch is threatened by his angry parents.

If you haven’t yet watched the thoroughly entertaining comedy-drama or want to rewatch it like me, there are a few options right now.

At the time of writing, Anora is playing at some Cineplex and Landmark theatres. You can also rent or purchase the movie on premium video on demand (PVOD) platforms like Apple TV and Google Play for $[website] and $[website], respectively.

But if you’re willing to wait, Anora will begin streaming on Prime Video on March 18th. (It’s currently only available to rent or purchase on the platform.).

The Oscars take place on Sunday, March 2 and we have a full breakdown of how to watch in Canada. We also have resources on how to stream some of Anora‘s fellow Oscar nominees, including Wicked, Conclave, Emilia Pérez and Dune: Part Two.
