Google’s Search widget is testing an even better shortcuts button (Updated)

Google appears to be prepping a more versatile version of the shortcut button that will give you access to all the available tools in a new pop-up window.
The new Multi Shortcuts button follows the updated Search widget design we first saw late last year and appears in a circle to the right of the search bar.
improvement. March 1, 2025 (08:45 PM ET): The new Multi Shortcuts button we spotted Google preparing for last month now appears to be in active testing. While it’s not yet available on all devices, we’ve spotted it live on some of our Android hardware. It might be too soon to say when Google will feel ready to push the new widget design out to everyone, but. We’re definitely making progress in that direction. Original article, February 4, 2025 (06:18 AM ET): Google lately started rolling out the customizable shortcut button for its search widget that was first spotted in September last year. It gives you quick access to useful tools, like translation, a dictionary, finance updates, or song search. Currently, you can only customize the shortcut to launch one tool of your choice. However, Google could make it a bit more versatile with a future improvement.

However, it is possible that such predicted attributes may not make it to a public release.
Google is already working on a new design for the search widget’s shortcut button. Which moves it from within the search bar to a separate circle to the right. We got our first look at the refreshed design late last year, but Google seems to have some additional changes in the works. As per new strings of code spotted in the latest Google app beta release (version beta), the shortcut button could soon give you access to all the available tools.

We’ve managed to enable the new “Multi Shortcuts” option ahead of the rollout and, as you can see in the attached screenshots. It replaces the shortcuts icon with a new app grid icon. Tapping on this new shortcut button opens a bottom sheet with all the tools. Making the shortcut button much more useful than it is in its current form. You can see it in action in the video embedded below.
This new Multi Shortcuts button is not live in the current Google app release, but. We expect it to roll out soon as it already seems to work as intended. We’ll enhancement this post as soon as it reaches clients.

Test arguably shows modem in iPhone 16e is faster than the one in the iPhone 16 Pro Max

Apple's plan for its C1 in-house 5G modem chip, , was to include it with the lower-priced iPhone 16e model and. The ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air . By the time the second-generation C-series 5G modem chip is ready to be used in a complete premium iPhone flagship series. It will be the iPhone 18 line to be released in 2027. Apple hoped to have improved the component by then so that it would be faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G modem chip it had been using on the iPhone.
iPhone 16e , using the C1 5G modem chip. Was 40% faster on than the.
But as it turns out, Apple might not have to wait until 2027 to beat the Snapdragon 5G modem in a foot race. A YouTube content creator who goes by the name Dave2D posted a video showing that the, using the C1 5G modem chip. Was 40% faster on than the iPhone 16 Pro Max outfitted with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X71 5G modem chip. The downlink speeds were and for the Apple C1 5G modem chip and Qualcomm Snapdragon X71 5G modem chip respectively.
Apple's in-house 5G modem was faster than Qualcomm's 5G modem even though the C1 does not include support for the fastest mmWave 5G networks. Apple did this to save some money and also because most wireless clients never get the opportunity to connect to a mmWave network because these signals travel over limited distances compared to mid-band and low-band networks.
As a result, while both phones were most likely connected to sub-6GHz 5G networks. Had the pair been hooked up to a mmWave network, only the iPhone 16 Pro Max would have been able to support the faster downlink speeds that are obtainable with mmWave support. It should be noted that both phones were running on the Bell Network.
One theory is that the C1 was able to outperform the Snapdragon X71 because of the area where Dave2D performed the test which was in Toronto. Canada. As Dave2D points out, being a major city, there are cell towers everywhere in Toronto which he says makes testing Apple's in-house mode less challenging for the C1. Had the test been conducted in a region where 5G towers are harder to find, we might have seen different results with the Snapdragon X71 5G modem coming out ahead.

Retail inventory of a popular iPad model declines hinting at upcoming upgrade

iPad Pro (2024) . Last year Apple released the iPad Air (2024) powered by the M2 chipset . Apple also added a second 13-inch model to the iPad Air line last year for a very practical reason. At the same time the new iPad Air models were introduced, Apple unveiled the iPad Pro (2024) with a significant change. The LCD displays on that model were upgraded to OLED which also led to an upgraded price tag for the 13-inch.
So for consumers wanting a 13-inch iPad but not willing to pay up for an OLED display. Apple added the aforementioned new 13-inch iPad Air (2024) alongside the 11-inch variant. Since those displays are LCD, they are cheaper than the iPad Pro (2024) tablets but still offer the same amount of real estate. The iPad Air (2024) also moved the self-facing camera to one of the longer bezels which makes it easier to snap photos while holding the tablet in landscape mode.
. Inventory of the iPad Air (2024) is shrinking in Apple Stores similar to what we saw with the iPhone SE 3 before the iPhone 16e was presented. Also running low on the shelves is the entry-level iPad which Gurman expects will be launched at the same time as the new iPad Air. As for the top-of-the-line iPad Pro, the newly promoted Gurman (now managing editor for global consumer tech at Bloomberg-congrats Mark!) expects that Apple will hold off the next version of the tablet until later this year when the Apple M5 SoC is ready to power the premium 11-inch and 13-inch models.
Gurman says not to expect Apple to drop the new iPad Air (2025) over the next few days but. It still is apparently on the list to be presented soon. Considering that we are now in the last month of the year's first quarter, we could see Apple release several new products over the next few weeks.
