Honor commits to 7 years of Android OS updates as it unveils ‘Alpha Plan’ strategy

Honor is now supporting its flagship phones for 7 years of Android OS updates, while also unveiling its new “Alpha Plan” AI strategy at MWC 2025.
Starting with the Magic 7 Pro that launched earlier this year. Honor is now committing to a 7-year improvement schedule. The firm will provide both 7 years of Android OS updates as well as security patches.
As detailed on its website. Honor provides monthly updates for its flagship devices which eventually drop down to quarterly updates. There’s no word on how this will break down over time, but it’s a welcome extension nonetheless.
For now, this only applies to Magic 7 Pro, but will extend to future “bar phone and foldable phone” devices that are flagship releases.
Additionally, the extended support not only extends the lifespan of devices and reduces e-waste. In line with the sustainability standards, but also ensures individuals enjoy secure, high-performing devices with the latest AI technology throughout their extended lifecycles. HONOR Magic7 Pro individuals in the EU are the first to benefit from the support extension. In the future, HONOR will offer the extended support to more flagship models, including bar phones and foldable phones.
The extension is a part of the new Honor “Alpha Plan,” also being introduced at MWC 2025.
Google was the first to adopt a 7-year modification commitment for the Pixel 8 series in 2023, and. Has since extended the same to Pixel 9. Samsung also supports its flagship devices for 7 years, including the Galaxy S24 series, S25 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 6. Z Flip 6, Tab S10 series, and select others. Samsung also offers a 6-year promise for some of its lower-end devices, such as the not long ago-revealed Galaxy A phones for 2025.
Honor Alpha Plan will bring many more AI functions… probably.
So what is Honor’s “Alpha Plan” announcement?
Under its new CEO. Honor says it will transition from being a “smartphone maker” to being an “AI device ecosystem enterprise.”.
THE HONOR ALPHA PLAN comprises three steps: The first step begins with the development of an intelligent phone. HONOR will work with partners to open technology boundaries to co-create a new paradigm for AI devices in the agentic AI era. Next, HONOR will open industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for AI ecosystem in the physical AI era. Finally, in the AGI era, HONOR will open human potential boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for civilization.
Working with Google and Qualcomm. Honor says that its “personal mobile AI agent” will be able to use context in other apps to help you perform tasks. The organization offers the example of making a restaurant reservation through a service while being able to look at your calendar and plan around existing appointments, and. Take traffic details into consideration.
Honor’s “AiMAGE” is also being used to boost image quality, including “AI Upscale” which is able to improve existing shots. That feature will come to Magic 7 Pro “gradually’ starting in March. Honor showed off some examples of its upscaling attributes on Twitter/X ahead of today’s announcement.
Other elements being presented under the Alpha Plan include AI Deepfake detection (coming soon to flagship phones) and a new file-sharing feature that will work across Android and iOS devices.
The first devices being unveiled in the Alpha Plan include the Honor Pad V9, a thin 11-inch Android tablet, the Honor Watch 5 Ultra. A smartwatch with 15-day battery life, and Honor Earbuds Open, which supports AI translation for real-time interpretation. These are launching for €250, €279, and €149, respectively. Honor also teased its next laptop, the MagicBook Pro 14, which is launching soon.

Honor Magic series gets seven years of updates

Hot on the heels of Qualcomm announcing it will extend software support for its latest Snapdragon 8 and 7 series chipsets to eight years, Honor today has unveiled a support window expansion of its own.
Starting now. All Honor Magic devices will get seven years of major Android updates and security updates. We're not sure this means seven major Android updates per device, as Honor's wording simply says "seven years of major Android OS updates", but no matter how you slice and. Dice it, you are at least getting six major updates, which is very good.
Honor boasts that this new commitment positions it "among the top three global brands worldwide to offer such extensive support". The announcement comes part of Honor's "Alpha Plan", a new strategic vision which "focuses on human-centric "AI designed to enrich lives."
With the long support window, Magic series people will "enjoy access to cutting-edge AI aspects and innovative functionalities for years to come". "well beyond the industry norm of 3-5 years".
Unsurprisingly, Honor is also making this into a sustainability play - the extended support window should reduce e-waste as people will be incentivized to keep devices for longer. Honor says it's "adopting a global leadership position in device lifecycle management, aligning with the "EU's Circular Economy and Ecodesign Regulation."

Renders for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus leave nothing to the imagination

New renders reveal that the tablet could feature the same sleek metal and glass design as other tablets in Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S10 series.
The tablet is rumored to feature a larger display and could run One UI 7 out of the box.
Samsung is gearing up to launch new Fan Edition tablets, and. We in the recent past got our first look at the higher-end variant, dubbed Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus, in a certification listing. The listing only included a low-quality image of the tablet’s display, but we now have high-resolution renders showcasing the device from all angles.
The renders, courtesy of reputed leaker OnLeaks (via SammyGuru). Reveal that the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus will follow the same design language as other tablets in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Tab S10 series. It will feature a sleek metal chassis with flat edges, a single rear camera, and a large display up front with uniform bezels.
The Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus will reportedly measure , weigh under 700g, and sport a stereo speaker setup. A single front-facing camera, a USB-C port, and a magnetic connector. Although the latest leak doesn’t reveal its specifications, previous rumors suggest the tablet could have a display, making it significantly larger than its predecessor but smaller than the flagship Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra.
Rumor has it that Samsung could equip the tablet with its in-house Exynos 1580 chipset, 12GB RAM. And 256GB of onboard storage. The tablet will likely offer S Pen support, but it’s unclear if it will ship with one in the box. Like other not long ago launched Samsung devices, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus should run One UI 7 based on Android 15 out of the box, but. We’ll have to wait until the launch for confirmation.
