BYD’s most affordable EVs just got a smart driving upgrade, for free

BYD believes good tech should be available to everyone. The world’s largest EV maker is making smart driving more affordable by upgrading its top-selling EVs with new tech, for free. Even its cheapest model, the Seagull, which starts at under $10,000 (69,900 yuan), is getting a smart upgrade.

BYD EVs just got a free smart driving upgrade.

At its vehicle intelligence event, BYD launched 21 of its top-selling models. Which now include its “God Eye” smart driving system. Even superior: There’s no extra charge for the new tech.

BYD’s CEO, Wang Chuanfu, mentioned during a live-streamed event that “good technology should be available to everyone.” That’s why the organization is giving its top-selling electric cars a smart upgrade for free.

BYD introduced during the event that 11 EVs from its Ocean Series are getting the upgrade. The lineup includes some of its best sellers, including the Seagull, Dolphin, and Seal EV models. Vehicles from other lineups, such as the Han, Song, and Yuan, will also feature the new tech, including plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) like the Seal 05 DM-i.

Smart driving functions are typically reserved for more premium models. Like Tesla. In China, the Model 3 starts at just over $32,000 (235,500 yuan).

Until now. BYD has only offered its God Eye smart driving system on higher-priced models. “At present, models equipped with smart driving tech often cost more than 200,000 yuan ($28,000),” BYD’s CEO mentioned at the event.

BYD revealed three new Gods Eye levels with varying levels of tech for different models. The “Gods Eye C” will be used for BYD-brand vehicles, such as the Seagull. It includes 12 cameras, five wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

The middle option, “Gods Eye B,” gets added LiDAR and will be used for its premium Denza and. Dang Cheng Bao lineups.

BYD’s luxury Yangwang will feature the “Gods Eye A” with three LiDARS and the business’s most powerful DiPliot 600 system. BYD showed off its smart driving tech with a driverless Yangwang U9 electric supercar jumping over spikes. Check it out in the video below.

For the first time last year, BYD outsold auto giants like Honda and Nissan, and it expects even more growth in 2025.

The corporation sold more than million passenger vehicles last year, up 40% from the 3 million BYD sold the previous year.

Not only that. But BYD is also making money while doing it. , BYD ranked first in car sales revenue in China last year. Although its vehicles sold for just under $17,000 on average, BYD topped Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen, with an average vehicle selling price of around $60,000 and $20,000, respectively.

With new smart driving tech rolling out, BYD is laying the groundwork for bigger profits in the coming years.

Renault unveils three all-electric light commercial vehicles that will hit the market in 2026

Renault Group is ringing in a new era of all-electric commercial vehicles, which will begin next year. The French automaker revealed the names and styles of three new all-electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs) that will feature a new skateboard platform and. Plenty of modularity for future fleets.

Renault is a veteran French automaker founded 125 years ago that has embraced multiple routes of electrification through its “E-Tech” program in recent years. We’ve seen several passenger and commercial EVs emerge from the corporation’s headquarters outside of Paris, including an R4 SUV and 600 km range semi-truck last fall and, most not long ago, an ultra-efficient concept called the Filante.

I’m still waiting for Renault to bring its electric version of its R17 restomod vehicle to market. But I’m sure I’m just dreaming. In the meantime, Renault has unveiled three new electric commercial vehicles under its E-Tech line, which will launch next year.

Renault reveals three new E-Tech electric vehicles.

Per a press release from Renault Group, its incoming range of light commercial vehicles will “redefine” the market segment as part of a full range of EVs that are flexible and. Scalable. The three new electric vehicle models were developed to meet a full range of business use cases as part of a collaboration with Flexis – an independent business founded by Renault Group, Volvo Group and CMA CGM Group.

These three initial models, named the Estafette. Goelette, and Trafic, will sit atop modular skateboard architecture developed by Ampere. The Estafette E-Tech(seen above) is a modern-day reboot of Renault’s 1960s van, reimagined as an electric vehicle for urban logistics and last-mile deliveries.

The Goellete E-Tech. Seen below, is an electric version of an LCV that was built for ten years beginning in 1956. Its modern architecture enables three variants for commercial customers – chassis cab, box, and tipper.

Last but not least is the Renault Trafic E-Tech electric, the fourth–generation model of a vehicle that was first built in 1980 and has had million units assembled since.

Per Renault, this entire new range of commercial electric vehicles will be built at the automaker’s Sandouville plant in France. And the plan is to hit the market sometime in 2026. Additional details have been promised in the coming months.
