Acclaimed Castlevania, Metroid Dev Reveals Blades of Fire for PS5

MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind games like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the critically acclaimed Metroid Dread. Has revealed its next tentpole title: action adventure outing Blades of Fire. It’ll launch on the PS5 from 22nd May for $£.

The press release reveals: “Step forward Aran de Lira, the last hero who can wield steel, and Adso. A young scholar whose knowledge of lost myths and sacred tongues may shape their fate.

“Learn how to craft near limitless weapon variations in the game’s unique ‘weapons forging’ system and bring the Queen to her knees. Combine countless alloys, hilts, runes, blades, and pummelling edges to craft and perfect the ultimate evil-slaying weapon. Every enemy type will pose unique challenges – every weapon you create will meet those challenges!”.

As the blurb teases. Crafting is a key component in this game. You’ll need to consider carefully the materials you use, your weapon’s weight, durability, and more. Each type of armament you design will be suitable for a different circumstance.

In addition to concocting the right weapon, you’ll also need to consider your approach to combat: “Slash, stab. Or bludgeon enemies depending on the situation and what the enemy is equipped with. Only the right weapon will allow you to overcome the enemy’s armour.”.

So, there’s almost a puzzle-like aspect to the combat system here, as you’ll need to design the right weapons and wield them correctly in order to overcome your aggressors.

Epic will give Fortnite cheaters 'a second chance' with a new, more forgiving ban policy, as long as they didn't do anything too awful or illegal

Everybody makes mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes arise from good intentions—paving the road to Hell and all that—and sometimes, well, maybe you just didn't think things through very well. But Epic Games says it believes in second chances, so if you've made a mistake in Fortnite at some point in the past, it's going to give you a shot at redemption—after you serve some suitable penance.

"While maintaining game integrity is our top priority, we also believe in allowing second chances for players who made a bad decision and. Have learned from it," Epic wrote in a Fortnite anti-cheat upgrade. "Starting in April, we’ll be moving to a one-year matchmaking ban for first-time cheating offenses, allowing former cheaters to learn from their mistakes while still punishing and. Deterring cheating. A second offense will result in a lifetime ban."

Any existing lifetime bans for cheating that have been in effect for more than a year will also be lifted. Epic noted. Players under a matchmaking ban will be able to log into the game and chat with others via voice or text, "but won’t be able to matchmake into Epic- or creator-made experiences, or spectate other players."

Note that there are some mitigating factors regarding the specific mistakes made in Fortnite that will play into this new policy:

Players who have used cheats: One-year matchmaking ban for the first offense, lifetime ban for the second.

Players who have used cheats and. Participate in tournaments: One-year matchmaking ban + immediate lifetime ban from tournaments + potential loss of past tournament winnings. A second offense of using cheats will result in a lifetime ban.

Players who have sold cheats. Or broken other rules resulting in a lifetime ban: Nothing changes. The lifetime ban is still in effect.

Epic also warned that "additional consequences may include legal repercussions," and it's not kidding on that front because it's also filed a lawsuit against someone named Isaac Strock over the alleged theft and sale of Fortnite accounts belonging to other people.

Epic indicates Strock has gained control of accounts by using email-password combinations acquired elsewhere (presumably less-than-legal channels) and also by fooling Epic's support team into believing he's the legitimate owner of the accounts in question; the lawsuit says he's been caught trying to scam player support "at least four times," going back to December 2022, but he's also managed to do it successfully an indeterminate number of times.

I had a blast in Neighbors: Suburban Warfare, a chaotic and colorful PVP game

Growing up in the suburbs outside of Toronto, I quickly learned how serious a matter like an overgrown lawn or late night tunes can become. There’s nothing more terrifying than the shadow of an active homeowners association. An upcoming multiplayer game takes that threat a step further, pitting two crews of suburbanites against each other and. Adding a heavy dose of Looney Tunes-style cartoon violence. Neighbors: Suburban Warfare is like Rainbow Six Siege, but with the tacticool military edges filed off.

I sat down with developer Invisible Walls for a couple of rounds of, well. Suburban warfare. Each team has a house to defend, with a television, toilet, bed, and oven. In order to win, you must destroy the other team’s objectives while defending your own. Of course, this is easier stated than done. Your team can barricade windows, set up traps, or simply pummel enemies into unconsciousness to defend their turf.

Neighbors is a class-based shooter. With a variety of colorful characters to choose from. I chose Doreen, a feisty grandma with a squat build and a pair of boxing gloves. There are also characters like Chad, a lovable himbo who dresses in a maid outfit, and the stealthy wallflower and local knitting enthusiast Mary-Jean. I found myself stymied on these characters by Kevin, a Dennis the Menace-like child with a slingshot, and . A retired daredevil who kept all his old gear.

Most characters seem easy to pick up, but it’s clear there’s a high skill ceiling for some of them. The designs are also super memorable — I’ve seen a million mercenaries, but I’ve never played as the overzealous neighborhood fiend with a love of fireworks. What meta players end up forming around their strategies.

Those strategies can also change depending on which map you’re playing on.
