GTA 6 - everything we know so far

GTA 6 is easily one of the most hotly-anticipated games ever, with its predecessor still dominating sales charts. Thankfully, we do now know a fair bit about the next installment into the Grand Theft Auto series, including where it's set, and that it's currently slated to come out later this year.
In terms of upcoming games, GTA 6 looks set to offer perhaps the most detailed open-world we've seen yet, that's if Rockstar Games can continue the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, that is. We now know that we'll be returning to Vice City this time around, a fact that means GTA 6’s story missions could reference some very iconic movies. One thing's for certain, the game is already looking very graphically impressive indeed.
While we wait for more info on Grand Theft Auto 6, you'll find everything that's been confirmed so far in this article. As new details are revealed, we'll be sure to improvement this page. For now, here's GTA 6's setting, what we know about its protagonist, and all of the latest news and trailers.
What is it? The next mainline Grand Theft Auto game.
The next mainline Grand Theft Auto game When does it come out? Fall 2025.
Fall 2025 What can I play it on? PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Who's making it: Rockstar Games.
GTA 6 release window - when does Grand Theft Auto 6 come out?
GTA 6 will launch Fall 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. This was revealed in the game's first trailer, then later narrowed down in a subsequent financial findings. Since then, Take-Two cemented the Fall 2025 release date. Aside from this release year window, however, we don't have any other specifics on when the game will come out. We'll have to wait for more info. In terms of a GTA 6 PC release, an ex-Rockstar dev has explained why GTA 6 won't come to PC at launch: 'This stuff is very complicated'.
Interestingly, GTA 6 will be able to make use of the extra power provided by the PS5 Pro at launch. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but unless Xbox launches a competitor, the best place to play GTA 6 could be Sony's most powerful console. We expect there to be a dedicated PS5 enhanced version of GTA 6, but we'll have to wait and see what Rockstar announces.
In terms of when to expect a PC port, you might not have to wait long for GTA 6. This is -Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who had this to say in a recent interview with IGN:
"In an interview with IGN ahead of the organization's recent financial results, Zelnick was asked whether the lack of a PC release is a mistake given the platform's prevalence.
"With Civ 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away,” he replied, referencing the recent multi-platform release of Sid Meier's Civilization 7. “With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar [Games] has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”.
It's expected that GTA 6 will be a colossal hit, with Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick in recent times predicting sales of current generation consoles to rise.
Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto [website] every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered. We're pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.February 4, 2022.
GTA 6 was revealed on February 4, 2022 via the Tweet embedded above. Ultimately, this was just confirmation that Rockstar was indeed working on GTA 6, and no other details were given aside from the fact that the game was in active development.
Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 - YouTube Watch On.
The GTA 6 trailer was revealed by Rockstar on December 4, 2023, after it leaked online. The trailer was initially scheduled for release the following day, but timelines were shifted. You can check it out above, in all its sun-drenched glory. It's 91 seconds long, and introduces us to Lucia, one of GTA 6's main protagonists. You'll also get some gorgeous shots of Vice City beaches, bars, and even an alligator.
We now know that GTA 6 will be set in the state of Leonida, which encompasses Vice City and beyond. In a newswire post, , Rockstar describes the area as 'the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet'. We see a fair few shots of Vice City in the debut trailer, but it's still unclear whether other areas will be included at launch.
A Bloomberg investigation 's map was much bigger to begin with, encompassing areas based on both North and South America. This was apparently cut back during development, with Rockstar Games shifting and narrowing its focus to Vice City and the surrounding areas. These are likely the swamps and bridges we see in the trailer, based loosely on the Florida Keys.
While this smaller launch map may sound disappointing at first, it's worth digging into other parts of the aforementioned research. Specifically, the fact that GTA 6's map may not remain static post-launch. Apparently, Rockstar plans to revision the map with more cities and interior locations after release, mainly to give developers more breathing room and to cut down on overtime while GTA 6 is being worked on. , there will be new missions and new map areas added "on a regular basis".
Rockstar Games revealed the first trailer for GTA 6 on December 4, 2023. In it, we're introduced to Lucia, one of the main protagonists of GTA 6. , GTA 6 could feature two playable protagonists. This is backed up by what's shown in the trailer, with Lucia and her partner, currently unnamed, shown pulling off robberies together.
In terms of the story, GTA 6 looks set to follow the couple as they attempt to pull off a big score. Aside from that, we know that it'll take place in and around Vice City, and that Lucia has been incarcerated at one point or another. We'll need to wait to hear more on whether GTA 6 will indeed allow players to control Lucia and her partner, but for now, we know a lot more about Lucia than the unnamed man shown in the trailer. Given that they both feature on the game's main title card, it's a good bet that there are indeed two playable characters.
It was rumored at one point that The Last of Us actor Troy Baker might be playing the male protagonist in GTA 6. Since then, we now know that no, Troy Baker isn't playing Grand Theft Auto 6's male protagonist, with the voice actor saying: "I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work".
As 's Guide, Spanish online retailer XUruguay briefly listed GTA 6 as a PS5 .
Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly run at 30FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
In a now-deleted Kiwi Talkz podcast episode, Mike York, who previously worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as an animator, shared his thoughts on the next GTA entry and expects the game to run at 30FPS on console (thanks, GamesRadar).
Analyst says there are those in the gaming industry who ‘hope’ GTA 6 will cost up to $100.
An analyst has claimed that there are those in the games industry who are hoping Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost up to $100.
That's 's Matthew Ball (via IGN), who in recent times released his State of Video Gaming in 2025 investigation. In it, he stated that there are some developers and publishers in the industry that "hope" Take-Two will raise GTA6's price from the current standard of $70 to between $80 and $100.
GTA 6 is predicted to be “one of the biggest entertainment launches in history"
This comes from market research firm DFC Intelligence (via the Financial Times), which states that it is likely to generate more than $1 billion in pre-orders alone. DFC Intelligence predicts that the game will hit a total revenue of $[website] billion in its first 12 months, which is roughly double what its predecessor Grand Theft Auto 5 achieved in the same time period.
Publishers are reportedly not announcing firm release dates to dodge GTA 6 launch.
A recent Bloomberg article states that "anticipation is so high” for GTA 6 that “some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall”. This is reportedly so that the publishers can know whether GTA 6 will actually hit its current release window and “keep their own games far, far away" if it does.
The latest financial results from Rockstar owner Take-Two Interactive, which were released yesterday November 6, have confirmed that the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for a 'fall 2025' release.
Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks aren't "as critical as people think" says GTA: San Andreas dev.
A former Grand Theft Auto developer has noted the past Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks are unimportant and only happen due to Rockstar's secrecy. Read more in our full news writeup, here.
Nearly seven months after it launched, the GTA 6 announcement trailer has hit 200 million views on YouTube. It's clear that gamers are clamoring for more info on the upcoming game, so hopefully we hear more soon.

I love my 10-year-old Echo and am terrified Amazon's new Alexa is gonna brick it

I bought my first Amazon Echo smart speaker a decade ago, not long after Amazon unveiled it in late 2014. The [website] tall tube sat on my hutch for years, casually responding to "Alexa" weather queries, answering what I might term simple trivia questions, and playing music from some of my favorite services on a surprisingly good speaker system. 10 years later, it's still doing all that, and it occurred to me how rare it is to have a modern piece of solid-state consumer electronics still functioning after a decade of service. But what if that ends tomorrow?
In roughly 24 hours, Amazon is expected to unveil its biggest Alexa enhancement, one that's set to transform it from a relatively basic digital assistant into a true generative chatbot, one that can stand nearly toe-to-toe with ChatGPT and Google Gemini (at least when it comes it asking questions via speech).
It's been more than a year since Amazon teased this transformation. Back in 2023, Amazon was already behind in the generative AI race, and that event served as a signal of the commerce giant's intentions.
Amazon didn't deliver the AI overhaul after six months, and not even after a year. In the interim, the organization saw some changes at the top. Founder and former CEO Bezos stepped away in 2021. Still, it wasn't until some of his key lieutenants moved on, like Dave Limp (who demonstrated that "new" Alexa"), and Microsoft's Panos Panay hopped on board that Amazon's generative plans got back on track. Perhaps sensing that Amazon was not exactly delivering on its AI promises, Bezos, who is still Executive Chairman, has been helping spearhead Amazon's AI efforts.
Now, we stand at the precipice of momentous Alexa change, which will mean big changes for every best Echo device that supports it.
Since 2015, Amazon has delivered well over a dozen different Echo devices. Some are simple, smart speaker tubes or orbs, while others have screens. Every one of them runs Alexa, and I'd argue that if you plug any of them in right now, even the oldest models like my original Echo, they'll still work, and Alexa will be at the ready.
I'm not implying the Alexa service has been stagnant. Soon after launch, Amazon added the ability to shop on Amazon through the platform. My Echo now has reminders and notifications about things that matter to you and possible Amazon deals you might like. It's gotten more conversational and able to carry on brief conversations. It can tell stories and terrible jokes, and, of course, it's good at controlling smart home devices.
For all that my trusted Echo has become, my concern now is that this may soon no longer be the case. It's possible that some vintage of Echos could be rendered useless by this impending Alexa enhancement. Without Alexa to drive operations, my Echo would become an inert plastic tube. The iconic "Alexa is listening" blue ring at the top might turn a permanent, disconnected orange. There is no way to tell it what to do or drive action and response without the watchword "Alexa" (you can also choose to have your Echo respond to other watchwords like "Computer").
Just look at the specs of the original Echo. It has an ARM Cortex A8 processor, 4GB of storage, and just 256MB of RAM. None of that is enough processing power or memory to handle local machine learning or generative operations. Additionally, these older Echos might not even be able to support the basic programming needed to house New Alexa.
And trust me, the next Alexa will not be a minor intelligence upgrade. It's potentially a brain transplant where Alexa's new generative AI capabilities are powered by Antrhopioc's Claude. From what I've seen online, that AI platform can chew up processing power, at least when people run it locally on the desktop. How it will run over the cloud with some operations local on an Echo is anyone's guess, but, as I mentioned, I fear my 10-year-old Echo might not be up to the task.
Amazon has traditionally done its digital assistant work in the cloud, so perhaps it'll do the same with this modification. But that's not a given.
First of all, most people work with generative AI differently than they do digital assistants. They're not just asking the AI to take action; they ask personal and detailed questions about home, life, and business. They share details you might not want in the cloud. Amazon may be fully encrypting these prompts and perhaps it's of no consequence, but that's a big maybe.
I hope I'm wrong. I've been so impressed with the longevity of these Echo devices (I have a tiny Echo Dot that's 9 years old) and it would be a shame for Amazon to brick them.
Let's hope they don't and that all the original Echo smart speakers and various other Alexa-supporting devices can enjoy what I expect will be a stunning AI revision.

The trailer for Netflix’s wild ‘one-take’ mystery thriller Adolescence looks ultra-intense and timely

The next big Netflix murder thriller that everyone's going to be talking about is Adolescence – a four-part show coming on March 13th, and the big selling point is that each episode was filmed in, and will be presented as, one unbroken take. Not a faux single take, like 1917, where lots of long takes are stitched together – actually all one take, is the promise.
Director Philip Barantini and actor Stephen Graham have form in this area, having done the same thing for the movie Boiling Point, and while that movie used the technique to wrap you in the intensity of the managed chaos of a restaurant kitchen, Adolescence will use it to take an unflinching look at the world of knife crime and toxic attitudes among teenagers.
It's to the show's credit that the trailer doesn't lean into the one-take premise at all, and simply looks utterly gripping and compelling.
Adolescence | Official Trailer | Netflix - YouTube Watch On.
The show follows the aftermath of a 13-year-old boy being accused of the murder of a girl who goes to his school. It'll explore what really happened, and why, as well as the aftermath among his family and the police detective leading the case.
Writer Jack Thorne told Deadline "The camera doesn’t blink in this show and by being unblinking it allows for a certain rawness and honesty… There are lots of ways of telling these stories and looking at knife crime but what we wanted to do is spend a lot of time thinking about our relationship with rage and talking about things that we struggle with as people. What has resulted is a piece that uses the technical to unlock the emotional."
There's the potential for some really interesting filmmaking to be explored, as Thorne further explained to Deadline: "The cinematographers thought a chase scene I had written would look like a computer game and instead I got this call from [Barantini] who presented, ‘Imagine if the cameras could fly.’ So we strapped cameras to a drone that took off over traffic lights and then suddenly you’re at the murder scene. Emotionally it kicks you in the stomach."
It sounds like each episode will explore a different element of the story, which makes sense in terms of not being able to just cut across town to explore what someone else is up to.
I'm really looking forward to this one – its promise of exploring youth violence, rage, modern social pressures, and the influence of the 'manosphere' on teenagers, it could be a really impacting and timely thriller, as well as mind-blowing technical marvel.
