Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra review

The Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra is here and it is more or less an iterative upgrade over last year's model. Not a lot has changed, neither physically nor in terms of hardware. The phone retains the same overall design and proportions. It comes in a new set of colors and with a slightly redesigned camera island, but generally, it looks and feels very familiar.
The display is absolutely unchanged. Not that it was in dire need of an upgrade to begin with. As far as we can tell, the stereo speaker system is also the same. Nothing has been modified in the battery department, either. You still get a hefty 5,500 mAh pack with 65W HyperCharge support and Qi [website] wireless charging.
The camera setup is largely unchanged. However, we did notice that Asus has swapped the main camera sensor, potentially as part of its gimbal stabilizer upgrade, which now provides up to 66% advanced stabilization.

The biggest hardware change introduced with the Zenfone 12 Ultra is arguably the chipset. The phone comes with Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Asus is using the new chip well, particularly its powerful NPU. One of the major selling points for the Zenfone 12 Ultra is its expanded AI prowess.
We will be going over the new AI functions in detail in the software section, but suffice it to say, there are quite a few new functions and many of them run locally on-device and don't require the cloud.
The Zenfone 12 Ultra comes in a gray two-piece box that is clearly made of recycled materials. In fact, it is FSC-certified and also uses eco ink. There is no plastic in sight, which we appreciate.
The retail package isn't particularly rich. Unfortunately, the Zenfone 12 Ultra does not come with a charger. You get a simple Type-C to Type-C cable that seems to lack an e-marker chip. This means that by specification, it is limited to 3A power transfer or a total of 60W at 20V.
The Zenfone 12 Ultra is rated to charge using up to 65W power. If you get an Asus charger, these usually ship with a corresponding cable to saturate the maximum rated power for the charger. Phones rarely hit their advertised maximum charging rate, though, so even if you keep using the provided cable with a third-party charger, this shouldn't be a problem in practical terms.
You do get a nice plastic, hard, transparent bumper case inside the box, so there's that.
In keeping with tradition, Asus also has a deal with both Rhinoshield and Devilcase to launch compatible cases alongside the phone. The latter even has a MagSafe magnetic accessory attachment point on the back for wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S25 review

The most compact Galaxy is back! It brings the largest performance jump in years, but it will also go down in history as the tiniest modification so far! That is because the Galaxy S25 modification list has only one entry - the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
The Galaxy S25 series has dropped the chipset fragmentation this year and every device gets the good stuff. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the most powerful chip on Android to date, and this one is a special enhanced version for Galaxy. It allows for massive performance gains and also supports new connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth [website].
Other than the heart of the Galaxy, the rest is the same as on the S24. The Galaxy S25 is an IP68-rated phone with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 panels and an aluminum frame. It has a [website] 1080p Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a small punch hole.
All cameras on the S25 are the same as they were on the S24 - a 12MP AF selfie and a trio of rear cams - a 50MP OIS primary, a 10MP 3x OIS telephoto and a 12MP FF ultrawide.
The charging capabilities remain identical, too. There is a 4,000mAh battery with support for 25W wired, 15W wireless and up to [website] reverse wireless charging. There is an modification here that can easily go unnoticed - the wireless charging capabilities have been expanded to be [website] Ready.
Android 15 and One UI 7, with the power of the new Snapdragon chip, brings many software improvements and AI functions, highly advertised by Samsung. Most of those, if not all, will make it to the older generation, too.
At least Samsung introduced some new colorways for the Galaxy S25, which is probably the only way to tell the S25 from the S24. Unfortunately, the Black color has become a [website] exclusive, so if you hoped to get a dark color from your carrier or favorite retailers, Navy (dark blue) or Silver Shadow (gray) are your best mainstream options.

The Galaxy S25 is a wonderful compact phone even it its only upgrade is performance. If you are not coming from a Galaxy S24, but an older phone or a different maker, you will find it a great all-rounder. We did hope for an ultrawide camera upgrade, though, and we were disappointed to find out Samsung has brought exactly zero updates in the camera hardware.
The Galaxy S25 arrives in a thin black box and its only companion is a USB-C cable rated at max 3A.
The Galaxy S25 supports up to 25W fast charging, so you do not need to shop for another cable, only for a compatible USB-PD adapter if you don't already own one at home.
