Goodbye, Good Morning memes: Google Photos now lets you banish clutter from your grid view

A new “Show content from other apps” setting in the overflow menu gives you granular control over which third-party content appears in your Photos view, with options to hide clutter.
The hide clutter feature is customizable by app, allowing you to hide or show media from specific apps in your grid view.
Are you someone who receives an annoying number of Good Morning messages and relationship memes? Congratulations, this Google Photos upgrade is for you. The app is getting a new option that allows you to filter out clutter from third-party data when viewing your photo gallery. We spotted this feature and first told you about it in May when we performed an APK teardown of the Google Photos app.
Before the latest revision, the overflow menu in Google Photos showed grid personalization options for stacking similar photos and changing the grid’s layout. These options are now joined by a new overarching setting called “Show content from other apps” that lets you hide all content saved from third-party apps like Gmail, WhatsApp, Messenger, Slack, and others.
Within the “Show content from other apps” setting, you get granular options to control what third-party content appears in your Google Photos grid. Toggling the “Hide clutter from other apps” option will automatically remove screenshots, GIFs, and memes from your Photos view.
You can further customize what you see from third-party apps through the “Customize by app” option. It lets you decide if you want to hide all media from a particular app in your Photos view, show all of it, or hide the clutter.

This is our first look at Google Search’s upcoming AI Mode

Google is developing an AI mode for Search that is expected to offer a more conversational search experience, helping consumers ask follow-up questions to refine their queries. We first spotted references to this feature in a teardown of the Google app last October and got our first look at the new button to launch the AI Mode on mobile later in the year. Now, Google has reportedly started testing the feature internally, and we have a superior idea of how it may work upon release.
Google in the recent past sent an internal email inviting employees to test Search’s AI Mode. The email describes the feature as a more intelligent way to research topics using Search that organizes “information into easy-to-digest breakdowns with links to explore content across the web.”.
Google further explains that the AI Mode is powered by a custom version of Gemini [website] that enables “advanced reasoning and thinking capabilities.” It’s designed to accommodate more open-ended and exploratory queries that ask Search for advice and comparison. In addition, the AI Mode will allow customers to ask follow-up questions. The corporation also shared the following example queries that are suited for the upcoming mode:
“How many boxes of spaghetti should I buy to feed 6 adults and 10 children, and have enough for seconds?”.
“Compare wool, down, and synthetic jackets in terms of insulation, water resistance, and durability.”.
“What do I need to get started with aquascaping?” Follow-up: “What are some nearby stores to buy supplies?”.
The email also includes a screenshot showcasing the “early release” desktop experience for the AI Mode. It presents a new AI Mode chip that appears alongside Search’s Image, News, Shopping, etc. filters. Selecting it opens a chat interface with answers, a text box at the bottom for follow-up questions, and a card containing relevant links on the side. AI Mode is reportedly also available on mobile to the early testers, but the email doesn’t include screenshots showcasing the mobile UI.

Philips Hue update fixes annoying motion sensor glitch for your smart lights

The fix applies to the Hue Bridge rather than the motion sensor hardware and includes other minor improvements.
Updates for Hue Secure and the Sync TV app are yet to materialize.
Repetative bugs can be the most frustrating when it comes to smart home devices, so owners of Phillips Hue motion detectors will be excited to receive the latest firmware modification. Rolling out now, the modification doesn’t introduce any new elements, but it addresses a key issue related to motion sensor behavior.
As detailed in a Hueblog post, Firmware version 1969060020 has improved how the brand’s motion sensors restore lights to their last on-state. Previously, some people found that their lights didn’t revert to previous settings after motion was detected, sometimes staying on unchanged or turning off incorrectly. This Philips Hue modification aims to resolve those inconsistencies, making automated lighting more reliable.
This change is happening at the Hue Bridge level, so there’s no separate improvement for the motion detector hardware itself. Along with the motion sensor fix, the improvement also includes unspecified improvements to certain Twilight models and general performance and reliability enhancements.
Meanwhile, Philips Hue clients are still waiting for two major software updates: an enhancement to the Hue Secure System that will enable Hue cameras to detect smoke detector alarms and the Hue Sync TV app for LG televisions.
