Skyrim Console Commands — tgm, player.additem & More

Important disclaimer

The console is an official Bethesda developer tool built into the PC version. It does not disable achievements in vanilla Skyrim, but some commands can bug quests or crash the game — keep a save before experimenting. Consoles (PS/Xbox) have no command access.

Skyrim ships with a full developer console on PC — Special Edition and Anniversary Edition included. God mode, free gold, instant levels, noclip: it's all one tilde key away. This page covers the commands players actually use, with exact syntax.

Finding item and NPC IDs

Most commands need an ID. Use 'help "item name" 0' in the console to search IDs in-game, or look them up on UESP — the definitive Elder Scrolls reference. Gold is f, lockpicks are a.

  • help "daedric sword" 0 — search any ID in-game
  • Click an object/NPC with console open to select it
  • UESP.net hosts complete item ID tables

FAQ

How do I open the console in Skyrim?

Press the tilde key (~), located under Esc and left of the 1 key on US keyboards. Type a command and press Enter. The console is PC-only.

Do console commands disable Skyrim achievements?

No — vanilla Skyrim on PC does not block achievements for console use, unlike Fallout 76 or some other titles.

What is the gold cheat in Skyrim?

Type 'player.additem f 1000' — f is the item ID for gold. Change 1000 to any amount.
