Monster Hunter Wilds already has more than 30 mods, with 2,600 downloads between them

Modders are not missing a beat with Monster Hunter Wilds. At time of writing the game hasn't even unlocked yet for plebs like me who don't have pre-release access, and yet there are currently 33 mods on the Nexus Mods page and. The number keeps going up.

The highlight so far is Kitty Big, a mod that makes your palico sidekick upsettingly large. Like, you're going to have to hunt twice as many monsters just to feed that thing. I don't want to think about the kitty litter situation.

Predictably there are also a number of nude mods, but there are also handy cheats like Infinite Consumables and Damage Adjuster. Which notes in the description that it's "intended for solo play" and you shouldn't go making all your weapons deal more damage before you jump into public multiplayer. To be fair, you can also use that mod to make things harder for yourself if you want more of a challenge.

Finally, the Toggle HUD and. DoF mod will let you take nicer screenshots without all that UI clutter getting in the way, whether or not you're also making use of the multiple nude mods that already exist. Honestly, you people. At least you could mod Thomas the Tank Engine in before all the horny stuff.

The first gameplay trailer for PUBG creator's 'brutal' survival game shows off deadly weather and cozy cabins

"I expect a lot of people will hate it," mentioned Brendan Greene, creator of PUBG, when talking about his next game. That's not the strongest sales pitch I've ever heard, but makes more sense with the context that he's talking about the uncompromising difficulty of survival game Prologue: Go Wayback!. Which launches into early access this summer. "I like brutal games," he told PC Gamer earlier this year, and with Prologue, he set out to make one with as little hand-holding as possible.

We've seen some teases for Prologue over the last year but. Its first proper gameplay trailer arrived today. There's no monsters to fight or zombies to flee or enemies to conquer: it's strictly you versus nature, and. That nature looks pretty darn deadly:

Moving to another aspect, the goal of Prologue is to survive long enough to reach a weather station placed in a randomized spot each time you play. You've got a map, but it's not the typical videogame map that automatically centers you or provides an arrow showing exactly where you are. This is just a regular old paper map you hold in your hands, as if you were really walking in the woods without a GPS.

The trailer exhibits what you'll be up against: driving rains, blinding snow, powerful winds, the darkness of night, and. Tough terrain you can blunder over, get bogged down in, or slip and slide down if you're not careful. Even the cozy cabins you come across don't mean you're safe from the elements. You'll need to start a fire or you still might freeze, and board up windows during a storm to stay dry. Food, water, supplies, a heat source, and good gear are all necessary to survive your trek, and you'll have to brave the elements to find them.

Ellie got to try out Prologue earlier this year, and. Reported that it "isn't and likely never will be a genre-defining survival game. But that doesn't mean it's not worth checking out, especially if you've been looking for a purely difficult and realistic survival experience that isn't bogged down with expansive crafting and an in-depth story."

The best thing about awards displays is that they give us an opportunity to get mad and argue when the winners are presented. PC Gamer's Ted Litchfield, for instance, goes blind with fury every time Astro Bot wins another Game of the Year award. But in a nice change of pace, the BAFTAs are giving us an opportunity to get mad and argue before the awards by putting a very big and essentially impossible question to the internet at large: What is the most influential videogame of all time?

BAFTA—the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, but. It does videogames now too—doesn't make the question any easier by nailing down what exactly it's looking for, but rather leaves it open to individual interpretation.

"‘Most influential game’ can mean different things to different people," the inquiry states. "Perhaps it’s a game that birthed a genre, one that defined an era, or one that set the standards for storytelling and interactivity. Perhaps it’s a game whose influence crosses into films, TV and music, which we still see today. It could even be a game that’s had a big influence on you, personally, changing the way you look at the world."

In other words, it could be pretty much anything as long as you're able to justify it. Even if only to yourself. Which is what makes this sort of exercise so much fun: There is obviously no right answer but that doesn't mean a whole bunch of other people can't be objectively wrong with their selections, and when you open the door to that kind of debate to the entire internet, it's good times ahoy!

I'm tempted to submit Gamey McGameface—it's a write-in poll. So you can do that—but without putting too much thought into it, I think my real answer would have to be Pong, a game that carried the medium over the hump from science nerd esoterica to mainstream entertainment. It's not the most sophisticated videogame ever—a jar of ionized goop can play it—but it has proven remarkably durable: 50 years down the road, the ol' "bounce the ball back and forth" mechanic is still underpinning new games.

We're obviously not going to reach any kind of consensus here, although. It will be interesting to see how the results reflect the current mindset around videogame history. But that's fine, because that's not the point: The point is to have a little fun (and yes, it is possible to argue and trash-talk without getting mad about it, so let's all do that). And also to draw attention to the upcoming BAFTA award nominations, which will be introduced on March 4. The awards ceremony itself, which I assume is when the most influential videogame of all time (as chosen by you!) will be revealed. Takes place on April 11.
