Palworld Staff Monster: Latest Updates and Analysis
Palworld developer gives all staff Monster Hunter Wilds release day off in case "they feel unwell"

For reasons totally unrelated to the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, Palworld developer Pocketpair has given its team a "special holiday" today, 28th February.
In a memo, staff were advised that as many employees hinted that they may be too unwell to work today, management had decided to give the team the day off as a "special holiday".
"On 28th February, we received a series of puzzling reports from many employees that they might feel unwell the next day, so we decided to institute a special holiday for the enterprise," the memo mentioned (as translated by Google).
It then confirmed a special day's holiday has been awarded to most departments - it's unclear what teams won't be eligible - and stressed to players that the time off would not impact Palworld or Craftopia. With scheduled updates progressing as planned (thanks, Automaton).
Monster Hunter Wilds currently boasts an all-time player peak of 987,482, although it seems likely it will smash past this number over the weekend. This makes Wilds one of the most-played games on Steam, surpassing peak player numbers for the likes of Baldur's Gate 3 and Elden Ring.
In comparison, Monster Hunter World has an all-time player peak of 334,684, meaning Wilds has almost tripled the former's peak player numbers in less than a day.
In the Eurogamer Monster Hunter Wilds review, our Matt awarded it 4/5, saying: "Wilds remains an exhilarating piece of work - so refined, so alive. So giddily, chaotically joyful when it all comes together that it feels like the ultimate culmination of everything the series has been working toward over the last two decades.
"And if it continues Monster Hunter's legacy of generous post-launch support - where the series has traditionally felt the freest to get daft and indulge in its more sadistic tendencies - it'll be fascinating to see how this beautiful new baseline for the series develops."

Palworld Maker Shuts Up Shop So Staff Can Enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds in Peace

Palworld developer Pocketpair has closed its office today, allowing staff to enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds in peace.
Furthermore, the studio’s official X (or Twitter) account shared a memo which was sent to employees ahead of 28th February, joking that a number of staff already planned to take a sick day.
“Regarding 28th February, we have received a series of mysterious reports from many employees that they may feel unwell tomorrow, so the enterprise has decided to introduce a special holiday,” it reads, as spotted by Automaton.
While it doesn’t explicitly mention Capcom’s new release, it doesn’t really take a genius to determine why it’s created this additional day off.

Palworld's developer gives staff day off after Monster Hunter Wilds causes 'a series of mysterious reports from many employees that they may feel unwell'

Monster Hunter Wilds is, well, real popular right now. With over million people hopping into the game on Steam alone in less than 6 hours, it seems like everyone and. Their Palicos are venturing into the wastes to slay some beasties. So much so, in fact, that several companies in Japan are simply throwing up their hands and saying fine, fine, take the day off.
In relation to this, this includes Palworld's developer Pocketpair, which posted to X this morning the following (machine-translated) statement: "For some reason, many employees have reported that they may be feeling unwell tomorrow, so tomorrow [they've] been given an extra day off." The full image also reads:
"Regarding February 28th, we have received a series of mysterious reports from many employees that they may feel unwell tomorrow, so the corporation has decided to institute a special holiday." Not everyone's got the day off, mind—there's a note that some departments are excluded. And "updates to 'PalWorld' and 'Craftopia' are progressing smoothly and are expected to be implemented as scheduled."
Over on the game's subreddit, other Japanese players have shown that their local companies are closing doors for the day. The notice below informs its employees of its recommended holiday leave, who is being recommended expressed holiday leave, and then, with little fanfare or insinuation, "February 28th is the release date for Monster Hunter Wilds." Like it's a coincidence and not the reason behind the exercise.
In another thread. One user writes: "I live in Japan, a suspicious number of our staff are already calling off for tomorrow. As a manager I feel I should probably mention the obvious at our manager meetings as to why they might be off, but. As a hunter I wish them well. I am not mentioning anything at the manager meetings."
Additionally, this isn't even necessarily unprecedented—the last Monster Hunter title caused a mysterious wave of sickness and officially-posted holidays, too.
Alas, being a games journalist. Big releases like this tend to mean I have to work more, not less, but I am capable of grace in the face of professional obligation. Besides, we're working more so you can get the most out of your holiday time, don't say we never gave you nothin'. Our writers at PC Gamer have put up a staggering amount of Monster Hunter Wilds guides, and we've got a live page to keep you up-to-date on all the happenings of this most auspicious, sickness-causing launch day.
