Gigabyte Brix BTIP-N250 Mini PC Unveiled With Quad-Core CPU and 2.5

Yet another Brix mini PC from Gigabyte has hit the scene, powered by the very modest six-watt Intel N250 CPU. Undoubtedly, this mini PC is targeted at folks with modest computing demands. If the system's specifications are anything to go by, -N250 is most likely to command an affordable price tag, although that cannot be stated with certainty for now considering that Gigabyte is yet to reveal any pricing or availability details regarding the mentioned, the Intel N250 quad-core. Quad-thread processors is not here to set any performance records. That stated, the N250 is actually as performant as the Zen+ Ryzen 5 3500U, which means moderate workloads and. Office-based workflows are likely not going to be much of a challenge for the system. The processor can be paired with up to 16 GB of DDR5 memory, and. The system supports as well as " drives to take care of storage requirements. Dual USB-C Gen 2, dual USB-A gen 2, HDMI, and audio in/out ports are also present. Wireless connectivity can be added via the 2230 slot, while the 1G ethernet takes care of wired networking.

Not a good look if any are melting when they made so few cards pre-order dates are months in the future.

I just can't understand why the revised connector still doesn't lock in place so this shit is less likely to happen. , 19:01 Reply.

As much as I would like to say this is user fault, I can't say I remember an 8 pin or double. Or triple 8 pin power connector go up in flames as these stupid 12VHPWR have. Why fix something that is not broken, Nvidia? , 19:04 Reply.

Why fix something that is not broken, Nvidia? Yea that is kinda my thought as well. We have seen this happen a few times already with the different generations of this connector, but. I do not recall this happening (At least regularly) in the past. Yea that is kinda my thought as well. He's going to get told to pound sand for using a 3rd-party ModDIY cable is my guess. I think your only options are to run the included cable with your PSU, use included adapter with card if you don't have one, or upgrade your PSU so that you have native PCI-E support and the cable.

Speculation at this point is either it wasn't actually fully secure. The cable was worn out, or something of the sorts.

I still say 12VHPWR is a terrible design. It's easy to say user error in many of these cases, but at a certain point the prevalence of "user error" becomes a design problem whether its the securing mechanism. Or the pin redesign for 12V 2x6 isn't actually doing what it's supposed to do. Not to mention just the idea of 600W going through this puny connector/cable. , 19:15 Reply.

The upside is we pretty much found out where the insane power requirements for GPUs will have to stop. It's going to be a couple of 12pin connectors supplying 500W each, or 6-8 8 pin connectors. Take your pick. , 19:21 Reply.

This is just Ngreedias bum getting bitten by employing Apple tactics and making an . Kinda the annoying sh*t we saw with iphones hopefully they are as smart as apple though as they eventually went to USBC. Maybe its time for nvidia to go back to the standard 6-8 pins. , 19:25 Reply.

C. Due to the short length of the cable, it would be safe to assume the build is a SFF. Which can mean that the user was putting a lot of pull on the cable. PixelTech A. This is not the cable that comes with the power supply.

B. This power supply has the older connector, the 12VHPWR, not the revised connector, 12V-2x6. For the cable on both ends and on the power supply box itself. And the 5090 FE has the revised connector. It's unknown if this custom cable is compatible with this power supply and don't know which connector it's using.

USER ERROR Cable for 12VHPWR and 12V-2x6 stays the same. They are interchangable. Only the plug on GPU/PSU is different between the two.

As for the custom cable, yeah maybe it was bad quality, maybe not, who knows.

But yeah I'm staying with the cable that I had with my PSU. No changing seems enhanced option, if not for safety then for warranty claim later at least. Welp, I learned something new today. I thought both the connector and plug were changed, but it was just the plug. As far as I've seen.

I think maybe one of these inside prongs was inferior for the connector?

At this rate, they may as well just port over the enterprise style of connectors; powering the GPUs through the mobo itself via dedicated rails. Or at least adopt either the ASUS BTF or MSI Zero standards, and. Instead just integrate the 8-pin delivery in the mobo as a pass-through option.

NVIDIA has enough momentum to force the change anyway. , 21:15 Reply.

Not giving an overall crap power connector (imo) a pass here, but. The user definitely chose poorly on cabling and installation. I don't see how it matters whether the cable is "unofficial" or not, the cable being a standard means every cable using the specification should just work.

And there was no issue with re-using a PSU with 8 pin connectors. Or a third party connector. IMO 12vhpwr and 12v2x6 is still a flawed design, it's too easy to not have the connector plugged in all the way. Or can come loose without the sense pins shutting down power to the card. , 21:55 Reply.

Could have used a superior connector DT series would only need a 8 pin connection to supply the 50 amp continuous load. , 22:05 Reply.

Even though it could be (at least partly) a user error. I agree with @Zach_01 that per pin monitoring is required for such extreme wattage. , 22:08 Reply.

Report Suggests OpenAI Finalizing Proprietary GPU Design

Going back a year, we started hearing about an OpenAI proprietary AI chip project —this (allegedly) highly ambitious endeavor included grand plans for a dedicated fabrication network. TSMC was reportedly in the equation, but indirectly laughed at the AI research organization's ardent requests. Fast-forward to the present day; OpenAI appears to be actively pursuing a proprietary GPU design through traditional means. A Reuters 's aforementioned "in-house" AI chip—the publication believes that OpenAI's debut silicon design has reached the finalization stage. Insiders have divulged that the project is only months away from being submitted to TSMC for "taping out." The foundry's advanced 3-nanometer process technology is reported to be on the cards. A Reuters source reckons that the unnamed chip functions: "a commonly used systolic array architecture with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) extensive networking capabilities."Broadcom is reportedly assisting with the development of OpenAI's in-house design—we heard about rumored negotiations taking place last summer. Jim Keller's tempting offer—of creating an AI chip for less than $1 trillion —was ignored early last year; OpenAI has instead assembled its own internal team of industry veterans. The October 2024 news cycle posited that former Google TPU engineers were drafted in as team leaders. With a targeted mass production window scheduled for 2026. The latest Reuters news article reiterates this projected timeframe, albeit dependent on the initial tape going "smoothly." OpenAI's chip department has grown to around forty individuals with recent months, —a small number relative to the headcounts at "Google or Amazon's AI chip program."
